Pentax Full Frame
I think Pentax having a Full Frame is the better chance of inroads into a larger pro-Market. That would catalyse more amateur sales. Interesting thread. I reckon Smeggypants got it right on the nose with that thought. If Pentax do eventually produce a camera with a FF sensor, it'll be targetted fi...

Here's a question for those moist over a Pentax FF
I could never afford one, Smeggy, so it's a moot point, but for me the only advantage would be to get full use from my old wide-angle lenses (although I bet the bigger sensor would show most of them to be of so-so quality.) The only other advantage I can think of, is for folks who print LARGE. I ...

Here's a question for those moist over a Pentax FF
I guess the main two improvements would be increased D.O.F and increased F.OV. In relation to wide angle lenses. Depending on the sensor, increased detail? However, I am very happy with the K5 and have invested a fair amount of money in lenses, so moving to full frame would be out of my reach for a ...

Here's a question for those moist over a Pentax FF
Want? Not yet anyway. Need? probably never. The kit I have now caters for all of my current photographic needs. A K5-II might be better for my low light race track meetings, but I get by with what I have now so it's unlikely that I'll upgrade yet. I'm not sure that FF will afford me any...

Here's a question for those moist over a Pentax FF
The only times I have wished for a larger sensor was when I was taking shots of large groups...of over 100 people on a couple of occasions. The first thing the girls tend to do when they view the image on the screen is to zoom in on themselves to check if their eyebrows and lashes look good - we are...

Here's a question for those moist over a Pentax FF
Square format DSLRs would need new bodies, or just be a full frame model cropped down for no purpose. Square format is no better and no worse than any other format - right for shots when the subject and composition suit it. I often use square format made from APS-C. I would not like to be restric...

Here's a question for those moist over a Pentax FF
I was looking at an old film SLR my son was using last week. I was very struck by how near the back the film plane mark was compared to on my K5. No wonder the film camera was slimmer, As to formats our own vision is wider than it is tall so no surprise at rectangular being the choice. If Pent...

Here's a question for those moist over a Pentax FF
I can assure you that I'm not trying to sell any line, just saying what I think, as I assume you are. I sold in a specialised area for many years and to be honest I no longer have any desire whatsoever to sell anybody anything. I am happy to convey information and assistance though. I agree it's ...

Here's a question for those moist over a Pentax FF
John, there is however something that I have been wondering about for some time. If that is not the case, why FF is often dismissed because a bigger sensor is not important, while on the other hand the 645 is the ultimate camera? This is the same reason that I always wanted a Pentax 67, although I c...

Here's a question for those moist over a Pentax FF
If we limit this to just the 'more is better' aspect - ie will FF improve our standards, well to an extent most technical enhancements will open up more potential for certain situations. FF ? Apart from the field of view adjustments with lenses (wider views without such short focal lengths being...

Here's a question for those moist over a Pentax FF
Some Youtube videos bemoaned the absence of 1:1 too. As if you couldn't crop the photo afterwards! Perhaps we were thinking Pentax couldn't run to a full 24x36 sensor so as a compromise perhaps offer us a 24x24. Well it took an age but we're there now. I note Smeggypants was the OP for this threa...

Sharpening in Photoshop
Carrying on from a point in another thread, a discussion of sharpening. As little as needed avoids haloes and other artifacts, and Unsharp Mask is my tool of choice. I have used this from Photoshop 7 through to CS5, which I currently use. Unsharp Mask, Threshold 3, Radius and amount depending ...

Pentax Q + PK adaptor + 50mm f2 DOF?
Hello, I am trying to understand the depth of field of having a 50mm f2 PKA lens on a Pentax Q. If I understand correctly there is a crop factor of 5.5x so the 50mm would be a 275mm f2 but on a much smaller sensor. Would the depth of field be super short though i.e the bookeh should be amazing ...

Pentax Q + PK adaptor + 50mm f2 DOF?
instead of editing my post (and in case anyone is interested), I have found this: http://www.cambridgeincolour.com/tutorials/digital-camera-sensor-size.htm to have the equivalent DOF of 150mm f2.8(on APS sensor) on the pentax Q + adaptor we would need a 58mm f1.1 lens... so not possible... ...

Pentax Q + PK adaptor + 50mm f2 DOF?
The depth of field of a lens is always the same. When the size of the sensor changes, the angle of view changes, but the depth of field remains constant. Cameras with small sensor have huge depth of field due to the short focal length used to give a "normal" view.

Pentax Q + PK adaptor + 50mm f2 DOF?
well that's an explanation I dont understand..!? It simply means that a given lens always has the same depth of field, regardless of the sensor size. But, using a small sensor, the field of view is narrower because most of the image seen by the lens is outside the sensor size, giving an enlargement...

Pentax Q + PK adaptor + 50mm f2 DOF?
DOF depends on only one thing, the Scale Ratio, sometimes called the Magnification Ratio. Scale Ratio is now many times your sensor size will fit into the subject size. Which is altered by how close you are to the subject and the size of your subject, your sensor size is a constant (obviously). ...

To Clone, or not to Clone...
Personally - I have never added something that was not there - and I have never cloned out something that should be there. Here though it gets subjective. What qualifies as should or should not be there? Generally to me this would include sensor dust, my feet when shooting ultra wide, a blurre...
