The original meaning of the word Photography isn't strictly true, even with film we didn't "draw with light" we simply allowed the light to fall onto a light sensitive emulsion, we do exactly the same with a digital sensor. How much manipulation is done to either is a matter of personal choice, a...

Draconian new Olympic camera rules

OK, that does it. I'm going to start a British camera company. The first thing we need is a name. (Anybody know how to make a sensor?):?

OK, that does it. I'm going to start a British camera company. The first thing we need is a name. (Anybody know how to make a sensor?):? Step 1: study paintent law; Step 2: give up and buy a company who already holds the paintents required; Step 3: give up and buy a company that produces sens...

Draconian new Olympic camera rules

(Anybody know how to make a shutter?):? Step 1::lol: I did some woodwork at school! How about a new rotery shutter, a bit like a fan, it will have 3 functions - a sensor cleanor (blow the dust off), a sensor cooler and a twin leaf shutter!8)

Draconian new Olympic camera rules

There is a project for this back in about 2000 that I signed up for as a potential tester. However the project never progressed. The prototype was a FF sensor that actually went where the film did and the equilivent of the film spool housed the electronics, processing engin (JPG only) and a USB po...

4.5" by 6" print size- irregular?

Probably teaching gran to suck eggs here, but just in case... ...don't forget that 5x7 is not the same aspect ratio as the 2:3 sensor size. So unless you've already cropped to fit, you'll either end up with a crop or some blank space, depending on which dimension you fit to the print size.

K10d Hair line on image

Hi Guys, Recently I have noticed a hair line at the top right corner of the photos taken with my k10d, It does not seem to follow a particular lens. It happens when ever I zoom to take photos, I can correct it with editing software but it will be quiet a job fixing a lot of photos. Please could...

It looks like it is on the sensor - a blower should remove this. Make sure it is a rocket blower type that has a avlve that helps stop dust being taken in, and then blown out putting even more dust marks!! Andy

As above. Its on the sensor, a quick blast from a rocket blower will shift it.

I don't think the mirror has any role in image capturing (I mean after shutter bouton is pressed). That must be on your sensor, .. try to move it with a blower or with a "sensor cleaner" you can buy in any photo material store. Look after "sensor cleaning" on YouTube. regards,

If it is a mark on the sensor - which I agree - it certainly looks like - why would it only appear when zooming? Carl

Actually, if you look closely -- well actually not all that closely -- there is quite a bit of muck on the sensor. It shows up so clearly on this image due to the small aperture. K.

Is This A Common Problem?

If it was dark, even a K-5 will struggle! Try using flash turned down a bit and a slow shutter speed of 1/25 or so (switch on slow synch in the flash settings). RAW images retail a mass of original data so you can change the sharpening, white balance etc. in post processing, or you can even retrie...

Is This A Common Problem?

Am I right in thinking when you take a RAW DNG any settings you put in the camera make no difference to the RAW image? Even high ISO, whats it called, noise reduction? You're not right. The RAW format is just the data collected by the sensor without (hardly) any processing. ISO, f-stop and shutt...

Is This A Common Problem?

I turned up the EV to +3( but it seems that would not affect a RAW file) Actually it will. setting exposure compensation has a direct effect on the amount of light reaching the sensor, the only camera adjustments that are not applied to RAW files are those which affect jpeg processing.

Macro question

It may be that your post processing has made previously minimal vignetting more visible, I've had this on several shots when boosting the contrast. Live-view should be identical to the photo as its a full view of the sensor, unless you had it zoomed in for critical focusing... Vignetting is easily ...

The grass isn't always greener....?

The design of the camera as a camera is not the issue, it is down to the card slot and pins not being as per spec. No different than the green line sensor issue on the K7 or the stains on the K5 sensors. Corrections will be made under due process. It's not an issue as Joe public covers the costs in ...

Film scanners

If you want high quality - you could consider buying a good quality Nikon scanner from eBay, do your scans, and then re-sell it. You probably would not lose too much through this transaction, and you get to "rent" a very high-quality scanner. I think a scanner with an IR dust sensor system is ess...
