Draconian new Olympic camera rules

The Olympic 'Gravy Train' is s imply a farce, when we have ''Lord'' Coe making a definitive statement 'that there is no evidence of empty seats'
Jacket potatoes and a small drink at £15 and bans on us Amateur Photographers who are paying the extortionate prices to have the right to spectate, then its high time we totally vetoed such events!!

Unlikely to happen I know but it would be effective!

It'll be interesting to see the "final" cost of this Olympic games. An article I read a couple of days ago, from a US publication, put a conservative estimate of $38Billion USD, rather more than the initial £3.8Billion GBP they told us at the outset, and which has likely quadrupled (or more) since. I'm also quite sure they'll try to hide the true cost to prevent themselves being strung up from lampposts by angry taxpayers saddled with the debt!

Aah, but it'll put the "Great" back into Great Britain!! Please bear this in mind when you are made redundant from your job, your employers go bust, your house is repossessed, or some other disaster befalls us. Simply shrug your shoulders and convince yourself that all that debt was worth London 2012!!

Just ask the citizens of Montreal, Canada how long it takes to clear an Olympic games debt.:

X's 2 With Steven and Chris (like you mine are nearly done, and to compound it out of work), as its based on 'Amateur' it must be time to end the costly fiasco. Especially when there are 'countries' manipulating results. In the end this can only be for fiscal benefit of some form. ALso with main sponsors 'controlling and further manipulating'

Fed up of Olympics moaners. The economy has benefited from the stimulus into construction and manufacturing. Don't like the restrictive conditions agreed with sponsors? Great, but would you prefer more public money spent on the games? The Olympics is here. Whatever your personal gripes, why not just enjoy it and hope it's as successful as it can be - economically and sportingly.

Not everyone is terribly keen on stick/plate/stone/hammer/jumping and running competitions. When you think of all that is great in human endeavour the sight of someone throwing a stick for personal gratification leaves me particularly cold.

Like most things in life, music, entertainment, sport, business, politics your more likely to succeed if you where privately educated...

I've got absolutely no arguments whatsoever with your sentiments about enjoying The Games, or your wish for their success on an economic and sporting perspective. My "gripe" is with the "short-termism" of it. Sure, construction got a boost from it, but manufacturing??.. Seriously?? I guess you failed to grasp the irony of the opening ceremony which was proudly boasting to the world that GB revolutionised industry. Where are those industries now? I'm sure there are member on this site that have either directly or indirectly been affected by the demise of these industries. What industries we did have have either disappeared, or been sold to foreign ownership. Clydebank was once the centre of shipbuilding globally, Manchester and surrounding areas were the pride of the Empire for woven cloth, and garment manufacture. I could go on for hours on this subject, but this is a photography-related website.

All I hope for is long-term economic benefits to BRITISH industry, and the citizens of GB, but somehow I (and doubtless others) doubt it.

OK, that does it. I'm going to start a British camera company. The first thing we need is a name.

Compared to the money wasted on the Iraq war (among others) this is nothing.
I'd hate to think how much has been spent on following the americans trying to police the world since WW2 Also paid for by the taxpayer!

Please don't deflect this too far into politics, we're really talking about photographers and the olympics.

And of course their draconian rules.

Spend the money on drugs and include a 100m sprint
and double decker bus jump at 50m.....
Aim for a World Record of around 4.5sec...
Give a 500kg Special Gold Medal to the first person
to do less than 5 secs.

I'm with you on that one, John... The money should have been spent on buying every citizen of GB a DSLR - Pentax, of course!!
