Pentax and Samsung
Using their own lens mount will I think be the downfall of Samsungs Compact System Cameras. I think they should have gone joined the micro 4/3 club. As good as the cameras with their larger sensor may be, many will remember Samsungs short forey into the dSLR market so may think why should this be an...

I have just listened to a CD!
I have an ancient 'Special Edition' Marantz CD player. Apparently they were built in Japan, imported into the UK and then rebult with special components to improve the sound quality. Recently I thought that it was on the way out but I put a CD cleaning disk into it and now it sounds like new :...

Image Stabilisation Test
I suspect it gives clues as to why we are urged to switch off SR when using a tripod. See what happens when in-body is switched on with an already stabilised image. Trying to use sensor SR at the same time as lens IS is futile, and a moment's thought shows why: - Each system is using accelerome...

Image Stabilisation Test
Because it demonstrates that when the actual shake is not what the system expects, it can act in a spurious manner. It really doesn't demonstrate this at all. As I explained above, the SR is just moving the sensor in response to the accelerations it's detecting, just as it usually does. It c...

Image Stabilisation Test
Whatever the reasons, and it's all been debated before, it's interesting and we'll have to glean from it what we will. :) Indeed. Regardless of the physics, as usual ;) Actually, this particular point hasn't been discussed at all, AFAIR. We've always argued about whether non-existent shake fool...

Image Stabilisation Test
If keeping the camera still fools the SR system into shaking the sensor then what about when the camera is still when hand holding it? Not easy but it is possible even transiently. This would indicate you'd always have to have some movement when the SR is enabled otherwise you'd get sensor mov...

Advice on prices please
The Super A and 28-80 are going for around £15-40 and £5-45, respectively. There's been two recent auctions on ebay for the 15mm, one in and one in selling at £660 and £677 respectively. Both were 'buy-it-now' and both had caps and hoods. The German one also had the original Pentax case. T...

Waitrose sausages
Adam Scorey was clearly impressed with the KR in terms of value, in this latest review of the KR he talks of value and uses an interesting metaphor "almost like buying Waitrose sausages at Lidl prices!" The same review displayed some less favourable comments "but then this thing has a Sony sensor, ...

Waitrose sausages
It may have a Sony sensor, but I suspect Pentax use completely different processing and possibly even a different filter in front of it. Much the same as Saab being handed a pile of GM bits and building something which is a much better car than anything else using them! I know my friend's A100 c...

Waitrose sausages
Referring to the KR as "this thing" was derogatory in my view, not sure what he would have said if it had been a Pentax sensor. Regards Chris:D

Grindingly Slow Laptop!
Surprise, surprise ... we all offer a different solution! The best place for Vista is a deep hole in the ground. XP and 7 are fine. Since the laptop is on contract - and presumably it has to be returned at contract end - then get a cheapie external hard drive and make a complete image of the lapt...

Grindingly Slow Laptop!
I think you will find that if the processor Is'nt up to scratch then it won't matter what cleaning or upgrading you do it won't make any difference. A lot of these freebie laptops will have lower grade processors so if you can afford to change the processor then do so if not get a new laptop with a...

Birthday surprise
Whilst the K100D Super is a very decent camera with a lovely sensor an upgrade to a used or new Kx or Kr would open up a whole new world. 1. High ISO, the 3,200 is not only very low on the K100D Super but of course not that useable either. Imagine how 6,400 will help your low light ambient shots....

Cleaning electrical contacts on a Flashgun
Get: Cotton Buds, White Vinegar, 360-grade wet-&-dry abasive sheet, pencil. Cotton bud well soaked in the vinegar will kill the corrosion. Dry cotton buds will clean out the mess. This may be enough. If the contacts are badly corroded, cut a strip of W&D and fold it over the pencil end. Put t...
