How often do you clean your contacts?
Many years ago a helpful person sorted out the telephone exchange with WD40 on a ship I knew. Never did work after that. Contact cleaning on my bodies and lenses is done in the Womble fashion for me too, tee, polo or whatever.

How often do you clean your contacts?
Everynow wnd then I clean mine - the 17-70 refuses to focus. A clean usually helps. However the other day it went into 'refuse to lock focus' mode, so Switched to manual and carried on. A couple of days later picked the camera up without having removed the lnes/ clean contacts and it worked no probl...

How often do you clean your contacts?
It seems it would have been a good idea to have trawled the 'net looking for lens mount cleaning options before going ahead with it. Most advice I can find advises against using WD40, consistent with the views expressed here. I'll not be using that any more. I've now cleaned my cameras ...

Leaving the Pentax fold
Is this the straight Canon 5D? it 1 point behind the Pentax K-x? The Landscape DR of the K-x was 1.4 EV's better. The sports low light ISO of the Canon was better by probably 2/3 stop. Hopefully the K-5 will do better. Edit: includes the K-7. If you look at the SNR graph the 5D a...

Now this is interesting.......
There have been attractive camera like this for a long time - from Konica, Leica, Olympus and others. The trouble tends to be that the traditional finishes make them very expensive, but the innards don't live up to expectation. For example, what was the point of a £2000 Cosina that didn't perform...

Now this is interesting.......
A lot does depend on price (and hence sales). At £500 region, would sell like hot-cakes. After all, most of the reason the E-P1 sold is because it looked like a Rangefinder. But at £1500, it becomes a luxury bling bling item like the Leica. The sensor is probably the same as the Sony one in th...

Now this is interesting.......
The price is absolutely ridiculous. I like the concept very much, but i'd want to pay more like 300.00 for what is essentially a simple piece of kit compared to a DSLR. The styling is great but it's the functionality that appeals to me - a bare-bones compact with a great sensor and uncompromising iq...

Now this is interesting.......
It looks lovely, but the concept is not exactly new: go back five years to the Leica Digilux 2 and its Panasonic LC1 twin and you had a camera with shutter speed dial, aperture ring and very similar interface to this Fuji. I loved my LC1 but it was essentially a superb lens in search of a better se...

Nearly bargain..... :-( (Actually probably still is really..)
You should be able to pick up a working body for next to nothing if you can't get any life from this one. Have you tried cleaning the battery contacts? The on off switch works by means of copper "fingers" which move on brass tracks as you turn the dial (around the rewind crank), there's also a test ...

AP Pentax Comment
I'm pretty sure the 645d will drop in price dramatically once a newer model 645d II comes out.... with a sixty or eighty mp sensor.... after recovering development cost there is nothing to stop them from knocking off a grand or two... so who'd want FF then?

October 2010 "Which?" magazine
Flicking through a copy of this today, as I noticed the cover feature "Star Cameras: Our Lab Tests Put The Big Brands Under The Spotlight" Apparently Pentax aren't a "Big Brand" as those tested were Canon, Nikon, Panasonic, Olympus, Samsung and Sony. They even comment on the "huge range of Nikkor...

October 2010 "Which?" magazine
The NX10 has an upgraded K20D sensor in it, does that count? As far as lenses are concerned, most camera buyers aren't interested in 35-year old second-hand lenses on eBay: the current lens lineup, which one can buy new from a camera store, is what differentiates between brands. On versatility/c...

What's next?
+ 2. In fact I'm pretty sure I remember Pentax saying a couple of years ago that they thought this was more important than megapixels. I don't think we've cracked high ISO fully yet. The 12,800 (non-expanded) ISO of the 1D mk IV may seem like a lot but it only allows you to increase your shutte...

What's next?
The other thing which could be interesting could be the idea of a transparent sensor. This would mean you could have multiple sensors all at slightly different focus points. You would then be able to take a shot and pick which of the images was in focus (or even combine them into a single image). N...

What's next?
It is a thought that the megapixel race still has a lot of power. If you take a mobile phone with it's microscopic sensor then stating that it has a 10/20 megapixel sensor will always help to sell it, even if the quality of the lens and the size of the sensor makes it redundant. In fact it's far m...

K5 Arrived!
I've heard the ISO on the sensor will go up to ISO1600 and then was for the rest pushed by the camera. I wonder what the difference will be in a ISO12800 and a ISO1600 shots pushed in post processing.

2011 predictions
Smartcamera, too bad he missed the obvious link with Samsung, they are the only company in the list I believe that make smartphones and cameras. It might not be so strange if they would make the jump to a hybrid. Or that they will put Android OS on cameras, they are already putting it in tellies. ...

K5 users
I do like my k20d,but buying the k5 was the best decision I made. The k5 is light years ahead of the k20d. Care to elaborate as I missed the K20 and got the K7 to use alongside my K10. The K7 is not light years ahead of the K10. As far as IQ goes, non of the Pentax DSLR's are light years ahead of ...
