K5 users
[quote:3496ace15f="pentaxdude"]I do like my k20d,but buying the k5 was the best decision I made. The k5 is light years ahead of the k20d. Care to elaborate as I missed the K20 and got the K7 to use alongside my K10. The K7 is not light years ahead of the K10. As far as IQ goes, non of the Pentax D...

What do you shoot?
I even reverted to Raw with my LX3 after initially opting for jpegs with that (and the jpeg conversion in the LX3 is excellent - I just prefer the greater flexibility of Raw even if it is more time consuming). To take this thread totally off topic already (a record?) How do you find the LX3 .. have...

straight or processed?
Bret and Simon what I for example meant is ETTR (expose to the right) that's one technique to maximize data. Basically you deliberately over-expose your photo because more data is captured by the sensor in the lighter area than dark areas, because you overexpose, the camera output is not close to t...

Pentax Cashback scheme
Perhaps they are waiting to see if you complain about a grubby sensor before crediting your account:D

Well done Johnsons/Pentax
That is good to know. I have a special interest as my K-5 is currently at Johnsons to investigate spots on the sensor.I suspect that the combination of the festive season and a sudden rush of work due to the K-5 sensor issue may mean that I have to wait a little longer than a week.

The top ten!
For me it would have to be my old and trusted Nikon F2AS Nikon F2 Pentax K-5 Samsung GX-10 That's all the Camera Body's I ever owed and the only reason that the Nikon's are still (just) top my list is that I still learn how to make best use of the K-5. In my eyes its not the camera really but ...

About the battrey for k-r
New batteries need 2-3 cycles before they are really up to speed. If you use the LCD a lot, life will be limited. I get around 2-3 hours of filming out of a 7D battery. Sensor cleaning on my K10D essentially kills battery life - without it, I can get a couple of thousand shots, even at -20. ...

painting with light
While we're on the subject of long exposures, is it ever possible to damage the camera (sensor or suchlike) by doing really long exposures? - I'm talking 10 minutes plus here. I have a vague recollection of someone once saying it could overheat, but have no idea if that's true! Would there be a ...

What is photography?
All professional photography is digitally edited. It is part of the image making process. All this baloney about getting it correct in camera, until digital sensors get absolutely as good as film then digital manipulation is a fact of life. The digital sensor never gets the image right. Exposure wil...

Vivian Maier, street photographer and nanny
I often crop my pics to square format. ( amongst other aspect ratios ). My shooting buddy seems to want to restrict himself to whatever aspect the sensor is. And what a great slide show!! She even took a pic of a discarded bag of chips on the pavement. A woman right on my wavelength. That's exac...

Advice required
Hi guys, Since selling my Pentax gear (to raise baby funds), I've been shooting with an Olympus E-P1 + 17mm pancake lens which has served me well and produced pleasing results. The one problem however is that I'm finding more and more that it falls between two (or three) stools in that: Ima...

Flickr gone mad
When I found I had marks on my K-5 sensor I took photo to include proof when returning the camera. I also put a link in the enclosed letter pointing to the picture. It sat on Flickr for 3/4 weeks with the odd person looking at it until I noticed all of a sudden it went absoluely mad. A bit of ...

Virus and Malware
The software (malware) itself seems to be described as setting up the registry to run other programs on startup. Some things to keep in mind... ONE: VMs are great. You can roll them back to a known good state and pretty much ignore ill effects by viruses. 1. Assuming you know how far to roll ...

Virus and Malware
When it was detected I was also prompted to install/run a virus scanner which I think was part of the Malware/virus. declined as it didnt seem to be anything to do with AVG. FYI, Very Smart!! After re-reading your comments, if this file was detected upon initial installation, it is probably safe...

4/3 (four thirds) systems- why?
Hi, I've been reading a bit about 4/3 (four thirds) systems (sony NEX 5, Panasonic DMC-L10, Olympus E5 etc): Why would someone buy one? (I could be very wrong in some of my assumptions, please correct me) They are much better than a compact but not as good as a dSLR for low light, IQ etc. ...

Photographic Value Pack !
Guys n gals maybe you can give some advice here. I am playing around with the idea of putting together a value pack of items that I can pick up at great prices in China (from my local mall in many instances) and that would provide great value for money for a lot of people. It's only really worth ...

Photographic Value Pack !
Some good ideas here guys ! I don't think I can be toooo flexible as that would mean horrendous stock levels but I'm coming around to maybe 2 or 3 packs based on different technicalities (macro, flash, landscape etc.). What I'm trying to do is put together a package where people will look at i...
