I know nothing about photography but I've bought an LX. Help!
So...I bought a used KR..it arrived today and it works! So now I can take a digital shot whenever I take a film one....that's got to be a good way to learn? I didn't think I could afford a DSLR, but I came across an ineptly listed one on ebay and was the only bidder...I also got a cornucopia of goo...

Wobbly LX viewfinder
Assuming it won't slide off then a little slack is fairly normal. I only have experience of my LX but there is a little movement in the prisms (whichever one is fitted), possibly the result of a little wear in a 30 year old camera. I've had no problems with them though (apart from my FA-1W where t...

Wobbly LX viewfinder
Oh dear. I fired the shutter with no lens and the mirror has stuck. :( What do I do now? Edit: I tweaked the shutter dial and the mirror flipped back and is operating fine. I think I just need to learn what the dial does.:)

Wobbly LX viewfinder
Sounds like you need a foam seal kit for your LX, if the mirror bumper is sticky. Try contacting Jon Goodman [email protected] He produces pre-cut kits of foam seals and will send them to you for a few pounds. A mirror bumper is usually provided with all the other seals, along with instructions...

Whats the best Pentax manual camera?
Manual could mean two things here. Manual focus may well be a given, but the second thing will be manual controls for exposure. As opposed to say an ME Super with aperture priority auto exposure. For a fully manual camera that only needs batteries for the meter, I prefer the Pentax MX. In screw t...

Whats the best Pentax manual camera?
All modern Pentax DSLR's can be used manually, even with old screw mount, K series, and M series lenses. So the answer to your question is the Pentax K-3 (you didn't stipulate film camera). There's no need to dig up a dinosaur. Stands back to avoid flying daggers

Whats the best Pentax manual camera?
The LX is the highest spec'ed Pentax manual focus body, but I sold mine. It was more camera than I need. I have owned nearly all Pentax K manual focus models. My favorite is the KX. Chris

Whats the best Pentax manual camera?
I didn't use any Pentax film cameras sadly, :( , but I was always interested in the features and qualities of high end film SLRs, and in the times when they were very expensive, I long wished to possess something like it. My biggest delight therefore when coming to Pentax (after a chance encounte...

Whats the best Pentax manual camera?
Best Manual focus Pentax must be the one you are using at the moment. Lots of nice cameras and all with their differences but the MX, LX and Super A are my favorites. Small Light and all the controls in just the right places. (Not everyone will agree about the Super A but mine was my only camera...

Whats the best Pentax manual camera?
If this forum were active back in 1988 say, I wonder what the equivilent detailed discussions and analysis would have have focussed on when comparing the various Pentax SLR choices? When somebody wrote 'the LX is my favourite' I wonder what specific qualities they valued most, and what aspects were ...

Whats the best Pentax manual camera?
Tough one. I would probably say the following:- K-mount manual focus:- MX - Very tough basic Camera, with some features K1000 - Cheap as chips, but built like a tank LX - Pro model, but ensure it has had a full service. K-Mount AF Z-1p - Ugly as sin, but well made and reliable MZ-5n, MZ...

Fisheye lense
The 8mm Samyang/Rokinon/Bower/Vivitar/Wallimex lenses are available in Pentax K mount for around £230-270 depending which brand you buy and where from (they're badged engineered versions of the same lens). Will give an almost circular fisheye effect on a full frame camera, and manual focus/manual a...

Fisheye lense
If it's just for fun, John's suggestion for a fisheye converter is probably all you want. Of interest to anoraks like myself, there were two manual focus Pentax lenses that might be available used although not so easy to come by: The was in production from 1975 -85, ideal for the K1000. Eve...

which pentax film body to get?
P30 gets my vote....well it would because I've got the P30n. Can be fully auto or fully manual, whatever floats your boat. The P30n or P30T are preferable to the earlier P30 (P3 in the US) because they also offer aperture priority (they all have manual and program), they're later cameras too. The...

which pentax film body to get?
i've just got back into film and haven't a clue about Pentax film cameras and any tips of what would be a good, simple camera would be greatly appreciated. There are three basic types of camera (along with the most available/useful bodies): 1) Manual focus, fully manual (manual exposure only), e.g....

which pentax film body to get?
John, this is a very good summary! I would add that the choice depends also on how serious you are about film. If you wand to first try, many of the "newer" film bodies are real bargains compared to older classics, and they are generally speaking easier from a maintenance point of view. For insta...

which pentax film body to get?
Although I am fond of my ES, love my MXes, enjoy the KX... etc etc... the last film camera I'd get rid of is my LX. I've just ordered a FD-2 viewfinder which completes my set... :) Best wishes, Kris. Having just got my LX back from repair - it's been a long time since I've used it. Compared to...

which pentax film body to get?
MX bodies are easier to find and just wonderful to use, very 'old school' in feel. Not that the LX is a bad body, quite the opposite. If you want auto focus then yes the MZ series, personally I love the MZ6, very familiar in feel, almost digital. The MZ30 is very similar to the '6 just cut back ...
