Problem with Pentax P30n
And shake in every direction - maybe put it in the back of the car and drive around some of the UK's finest roads. Didn't NASA try that with a couple of their Lunar Rovers, and the wheels fell off in one of our wonderful potholes??:?

Problem with Pentax P30n
It works now :-) Obviously, it is dried grease what is causing this problem. I will have to open it and lubricate the mechanicals, because the problem is back when camera cools down.

Pentax KX + 28mm f/3.5
Just back from a photo market up at Leederville, Perth. Lots of stuff for sale at keen prices. I spotted a KX body and thought it looked mint. As it had no price against it I assumed it would be expensive and left it at that and walked away. Another circle round the tables and it was still there,...

Bulk film loaders
For many many years I have loaded 'bulk' films WITHOUT using a 'Bulk Film Loader' and I have TWO free ones on my Garage . In the DARKROOM I lay out some reloadable cassettes saved from Ilford FP3 and HP3 days -- I have about 80 in a box -- also the ORWO ones I still have about 30 -- then I take off...

Bulk film loaders
Many thanks for all the prompt and informative replies. HG - that film changing bag you mention. I got one of those in a job lot of stuff and had no idea what it was - then I thought I had worked it out, so I tried to put it on like a T-shirt :D. Yes, I really did. Quickly realised my mistake...

I know nothing about photography but I've bought an LX. Help!
Even though I love using film (just got back from Paris and I didn't even bother taking the K20D, just the LX, the MX and a selection of films), I agree with Peter. Teaching, for example, depth of field is pretty easy when you can tether the camera to a laptop attached to a data projector and show ...

I know nothing about photography but I've bought an LX. Help!
Its best to keep the learning aspect separate from the actual recording format,I think. If its just about learning camera settings and techniques, then of course, the instant feedback of digital is enormously beneficial, allowing instant testing with different settings. I've done this recently wi...

I know nothing about photography but I've bought an LX. Help!
I think it will boil down to how much time the OP has available. Indeed, yes. I am 65 in late December. I've been taking photos with film cameras, on and off, since I was in short pants. I was very late buying my first DSLR, a Pentax K200D in 2008 - but by 2010, I had taken more photos usin...

I know nothing about photography but I've bought an LX. Help!
It’s a difficult one, I don't think it's difficult at all. Technology and techniques move on. When (not if) film makers stop producing their film, there will once again be no choice for new photographers to learn their craft using the only available medium. As far as I know, the development of film ...

I know nothing about photography but I've bought an LX. Help!
Sticking to photography and learning about it, I think its important to keep a distinction between recording medium (ie film or digital) and the essential tools that are needed to best learn about the fundamentals of photography. Lets not equate 'film' or 35mm with 'basic', or 'manual' - the late...

I know nothing about photography but I've bought an LX. Help!
BUT one of the biggest faults I see from people who have only used digital is the amount of shots/images that take without thinking about the image At times, I worry that I'm just getting a bit better at sifting a few decent photos from a much larger heap of detritus that digital lets you take - but...

But restrict their operations to Av or M exposure modes, centre-weighted metering and use a manual focus lens, and you've got the essential tools to learn photography, without unnecessary complications. Well, yes, but that is all about learning the mechanics of taking sharp, correctly exposed photos...

I know nothing about photography but I've bought an LX. Help!
Lots of good points in favour of learning digitally. Probably the main reason I chose analogue is that I live 100 yards from an amazing photographic centre where I can join a thriving community of film users (some of whom are very comely females) and have lessons subsidised by the Arts Council, i.e....

I know nothing about photography but I've bought an LX. Help!
With most things in life, exercise and/or practice will develop skills and abilities. You can learn to see images Andrew and Stan, but it takes some work. I would suggest you try an exercise that will help to focus your mind. Select a place, be it a museum, art gallery, stately home, deer park or...

I know nothing about photography but I've bought an LX. Help!
There is something irrational about shooting with film, but it gives me so much more pleasure than shooting digital, even if I have to wait to see the outcome. Perhaps it's the necessity of having to think the process through before taking the picture, but there is also something beyond that wh...

I know nothing about photography but I've bought an LX. Help!
My latest gizmo can even change the depth of field or point of focus after taking the photo, can make cars disappear from streets, and of course determine the exposure for me, etc, and all with one press of a button. Blimey. Which gizmo can do all that????

I know nothing about photography but I've bought an LX. Help!
Hi BrixtonNick, I own an LX, MX (Now given to my daughter), ME and a Medium Format 645. I don't own a digital camera. I have used friends' digital cameras from time to time to take a photograph for them and handed them straight back. I wouldn't want to own one. They don't get my blood racing. I u...
