which pentax film body to get?
Gareth, there is a whole raft of younger people who never used a film camera or a camera which you have to focus yourself, or one without an exposure meter. Many of them have absolutely no idea where to start, and are coming from camera phones! I have seen some repeatedly looking at the back ...

which pentax film body to get?
A Z1P is pretty much as good as it gets, I have two and although I have a K3 and a K5iis. I still pull out the Z1P when I want to re calibrate my understanding of resolution. Particularly with Macro using the Pentax 100 mm and a Sunpak ring flash, we have a bit to go with digital still. Clea...

Re-awakening my LX
I've just got my LX back from service/repair (Harrow Technical) for a sticky mirror and a few other minor bits. It was out of action for a very long time (I bought it in the mid-90s) and had forgotten how good it is to use. Having had the chance to shoot some film through it, I'm hugely impressed...

Re-awakening my LX
Hi Kris, I've been using the LX & FA20-35 today (first chance to really use the lens on film), obviously it works but doesn't feel right in many ways. Compared to the camera, the lens feels fragile and the focus ring isn't wide enough (especially with the hood on). I can't really justify a 50/...

Re-awakening my LX
The metering will be fine. More important are the seals etc. Make sure the mirror bumper and light seals are not goo. Also, the mirror bearings which are rubber sometimes deteriorate. To test this take a longish lens, e.g., 200mm, and try to focus on something a long way away. If it won't focus ...

Re-awakening my LX
I bought a 2nd hand LX about 3 years ago and it had a sticky mirror but it was cheap enough ( £125 with F1.7 lens ) so I wasn't bothered. I used it for a year then sent it to Harrow Technical for a service. I'd previously sent my MX that I bought in 1983 to them for a service. Service was e...

Repair recommendation for Pentax ES II
The best options for a UK repair are likely to be Harrow Technical or Asahi Photo . Spares are likely to be an issue though - depending on the problem. I've recently had an LX repaired by Harrow Technical and it seems very good (haven't got results back from it yet). John.

Opinions on Pentax K2 & ISO dial repair please
A touch of Sewing Machine oil -- NOT even a DROP from the container -- will work wonders -- I got a free 1975 KX like that from a Camera Club friend who was selling his Pentax film gear to Ffordes and they sent back the KX saying it was not saleable as it was not working -- well, the aperture settin...

anyone shooting with a Program A
I have the very similar Super-A. My biggest problem with using it is that I wear glasses and the Super-A has no diopter adjustment. I imagine the Program-A is the same. Diopter adjusting accessories are available though. I found a Program-A + SMCP-A 50mm 1.7 lens at a boot fair a couple of weeks ...

Advice about new kit
Hi everyone. I'm about to get back into film and have bought an MX in black with a 50mm f1.7. I've also invested in a couple of lenses -a 28mm f.2.8 and a 135m f1.3. Does this sound like a reasonable setup for starters? Any advice about other kit I should look out for please? I've ordered some fujif...

Film and scanner
It's a difficult one to answer. We usually go back to film for a specific reason, be it quality (medium format perhaps), experimentation, or some specific characteristic that we can only achieve on film. As you don't know why you want to do it, it's tricky to advise. However, it is very unlikely ...

Film and scanner
Its worth doing your own scanning, but not on a cheap scanner. Software matters as well, as there are a number of key things that are better to get right at the scan 'capture' stage rather than editing a digital file later, namely exposure, sharpness, contrast, colour temp and any grain reduction ne...

Film and scanner
I've not used the light box method, but it does sound a better option than a cheap scanner. I use an Epson V500 scanner, but I think it cost around £300 - worth it for me as I had over 20 years' worth of negatives and slides to digitise, and recently got on to a box full of B&W prints inherited fro...

Problems with k1000
Hello, This is my first time on a forum, and I'm extremely new to photography - I apologise in advance if this is in the wrong place, or if I say anything that doesn't make sense - you may be as ruthless and condescending as you wish :) I have a fabulous ASAHI Pentax K1000, that has treated me...

Problems with k1000
I bought that lens and it suffers, as John says, with a slack focus ring which completely turned me off it so never really played with it. Just wanted to say I was raised on Mono Film because that was what my Dad was set up for developing. Your pictures are great, really think you have an eye...

Problems with k1000
The lens you bought is actually an excellent performer and I've used several of them over the years. Second hand ones can suffer from very slack focusing/zooming but that wouldn't affect your camera. The bent aperture lever is probably to blame, preventing the shutter release cycle in some way. Y...

LX Focusing screens
Hey, a quick question, are the SC-26 or SE-23 screens worth the hunt? I currently have the stock SC-21 and SB-21 which are spilt-image and micro prism screens and find them struggling to show the in focus area. Will different screens change something or practise makes perfect? From lenses I s...

P30 Fault, cann it be easily fixed
Hi I was wondering if anyone on this forum nay be able to help me with a Pentax P30n fault. I'm wondering if it's a known fault? I know a P30n can be picked up for less than twenty quid but so it's not worth getting it repaired but I've had this camera since the 90's, it was my first real camera (...
