ME Super exposure compensation fault

Thanks HG - I'm going to try to avoid taking too much off as that tends to increase my chances of getting it back together! I don't see much point in getting it professionally repaired as I only paid £28 for it and the 50/1.7 is very nice indeed, so if I can't sort it the lens was worth the purch...

Pentax ES I have just acquired

You need the SMC Tak 28mm f3.5 now to complete the set! I know....... It's finding one! :D At a reasonable price. I like the Takumars, really good lenses. Am I right in thinking that the ES can still use the older Takumars with stop-down metering? I know the ES II and Spotmatic F could. You coul...

Pentax ES I have just acquired

You can use the previous Pentax lenses, including the 50mm f1.4 that cannot be used on some older bodies. Spotmatic and later are fine. S1a needs orange market on rewind knob, not green. But to go back to the ES, yes, it's fine.

Pentax ES I have just acquired

The ES will operate without batteries in full manual mode, so yep think it must be mechanical. Get the test film back at the end of the week so will find out if the meter is accurate too!

Is there a market for my MZ-5N and gear?

I have a silver MZ-5N plus Pentax 28-80mm F3.5-5.6 FA lens, Sigma 100-300mm F4.5-6.7 UC AF lens, Centon FG30D dedicated flash, Pentax fitted case for the camera, plus all original boxes and manuals. Everything is in perfect condition, looks almost as new. It would be nice to find a good home for a...

camera advice

I'm thinking of buying an slr film camera as i feel i never realy mastered it. I also think that going back to basics would be good for me. my crtieria for the camera: 1. Should work with FA/DFA and possibly DA 35 2. Aperature control from the body 3. Autofocus 4. Not too large and cumberso...

camera advice

You say that you want to go back to basics, but the bodies which offer the features you want really aren't basic - they tend to be much like a DSLR in handling. I have an MZ-7 which fills all of those but it's just too much like digital to be fun (also the shutter on mine tends to stick open on the ...

Check this lens/body compatibility chart, if you want Av mode with DA lenses. http://www.mosphotos.com/PentaxLensCompatibility.html An MZ6 or MZ7, or any SFX or PZ series camera is ideal if you also want reverse compatibility with M lenses (in a nutshell, those cameras will work with any K-mount ...

camera advice

I think I was told the 2cr5 batteries do 40 or so rolls of film. I got mine off ebay ( a while back) and have a stock of 10 or so. Being lithium they have a long shelf life and should be good well past their use by dates. I remember having a wild goose chase for the grip strap which you can conv...

camera advice

Hmm, see, the advice on the Dimitrov K mount site is that the grip for the Z series bodies is just a bit of moulded plastic (it doesn't enable the use of other batteries). I saw a hack a while (years) back where the Z-1 grip had been adapted and it has sufficient space for 4 AAa. Contacts can be ma...

I'm really enjoying my MZ-50 & DA 35mm 2.4AL

Hi chaps. I just wanted to gush a little bit on how much I'm enjoying using my MZ-50 & DA 35mm 2.4AL. Since the lens is extremely light weight as is the MZ-50 (thanks to plastic being the order of the day) it presents a nice light package. Being based on the classic 35mm F2 I figured the new 35mm...

I'm really enjoying my MZ-50 & DA 35mm 2.4AL

looking at the display for the image you just took. I do it on the Z-1, I might have to put a sticker on the back. Would love to see the results of the mz50 da35 combo. Sounds great.

I'm really enjoying my MZ-50 & DA 35mm 2.4AL

Well - something does occur to me when I shoot with this. I've often thought that an EVIL Pentax system with an APS-C image sensor could be a great opportunity to hark back to the form factor of 35mm bodies such as the MZ-50. Like Samsung have done with the NX10 but with nice retro styling, bu...

Impulse Buy Spotmatic

I think that the SP1000 came with the SMC Tak 55/2 as standard originally, so you'd have a matched pair if you could get one of these at a reasonable price. It's a very good standard lens. For me though, the SuperTak 50/1.4 is the King of the Hill for standards - and you can pick them up at a rea...

Impulse Buy Spotmatic

It's been so long since I used any of my M42 gear that I'm selling some on eBay.uk this Sunday and the next. One of the reasons for the popularity of Pentax throughout the screwmount era was the quality of the coatings and the smoothness of focusing, compared with a few other brands. And you might...

Impulse Buy Spotmatic

I bought my first Pentax Spotmatic while stationed in Germany in 1968, followed by a Spotmatic II when they came out the following year. The SP1000 was a slightly cheaper version of the Spotmatic. The only difference is that the SP1000 does not have the built in shutter delay timer on the left si...

Impulse Buy Spotmatic

When looking at the old M42 lenses an auto lense has the aperture control pin on the back of the lens mount that stops the lens down when you turn the light meter on or when you snap the shutter. Nearly all true Pentax or Takumar lenses had a slide control to switch from manual to auto. That was so ...

Cleaning the mirror.

No need to be so squeamish. An occasional cleaning is okay. I worked in the camera repair department at Olympus USA. Many cameras that came in for repair had smudged mirrors. We would wrap several layers of lens tissue around the end of a long tweezers, and dip this in Freon. Any good l...
