Inside a K2

I suspect the ad you saw was for someone who didn't know the difference. In much the same way it took me a while to get an MX case. The redlined case for the ME and MV series were all the same but the MX was different and yet not long ago many if not most of the ads on that auction site stated they ...

Inside a K2

The MX cases generally had a greyish blue lining whereas the others had a red lining ;) I have an "proper" MEF case and apart from the MEF lettering on the bottom, it doesn't seem any different from the other cases. I used to keep the MEF is a "normal case until I got that. Kim I've just ...

Inside a K2

The "folded" cases were the later ones and I may be wrong but most were sold for the K1000. My KX case is put together like the Spottie cases but made of that dimpled cardboard LOL I love that description! For most of the cases there were long fronts. I even have one for the Spottie. This does at...

request from a novice

Thankyou, thats very helpful. I have a manual focus 50mm F2.0 (i think it used to be the kit lense on older film bodies). I have the new 35mm F2.4 which I believe works on older bodies and is okay full frame. I also have a Tamron 90mm F2.8 which maybe compatible and I have the SMC 50mm F1.4 which is...

request from a novice

Depending on which FA 28-80mm they used it isn't a bad lens. I've got the PZ one and the f3.5-5.6 version which seems to be optically identical but minus PZ and slightly slower at the long end, both are capable of decent results. I do think most of the problems with older consumer-grade lenses ar...

ME-super & AF400FTZ flash ... trying to learn, information please?

My fault, brain not in gear. After I started typing, I double checked the manual from the website (away from homeat the moment so couldn't check the gun) There is no Auto setting available on the M or K series. It will work in manual mode only setting either hi or lo output. You will have to use ...

what's wrong with my prints?

You haven't said which film camera, but it looks to me as if light is leaking in somewhere. If it's an older MX, ME, Super-A etc, the seals rot down to a black goo and need to be replaced. When was the last time you used the camera, and were the prints OK? Is it possible that you didn't clo...

Outdated film - still good to use??

Back in the mid 70's, working for Campkins of Cambridge, we used to sell loads of out of date film in a big bin in the shop. We would run a test batch every few months but had no problems. Most film is remarkably stable as long as it hasn't been in direct heat/sunlight. We stored all new film in ...

Outdated film - still good to use??

Have you thought of doing it yourself. I used to, way way back, when I went throught a slide period. Most was C41 but there was another popular one(I do wish I could remember what though) I'm sorry I can't remember the recipes but they were easily made up from proprietry packs (in those days m...

Lucky find

My lady love spotted a Pentax camera for sale in the local "Save the Children" charity shop and as it was only £5 bought it for me. Imagine my delight to find it is a working MX! Unfortunately, someone has dropped it on the corner near the wind-on lever so there is a dent, and the lever doesn't sp...

Information

Hi All, Many thanks for your valued information, saw an advertisment for a K1000 case and am thinking of getting it for my K2. Am I correct to say that since the K2, KX, KM & K1000 all came out about the same period, perhaps their dimensions are about the same, plus or minus a couple of mm. The pho...

Information

My Super A top plate is definitely plastic, although the baseplate and camera chassis are metal. It doesn't seem to make much difference to their robustness judging by the number still out there. Find a nice condition one and enjoy it, they're very flexible cameras. Mine is currently loaded with Ilf...

Information

Back to the other original question, here's my KM and its case: These cases are not the easiest to lay hands on, but aside from the strap that outfit is correct. The lens is the 55/1.8 which was one of the kit lenses for the KM, although the components didn't come into my possession together...

Not entirely sure where that is, unfortunately! On a vaguely related note I think I may have tracked down an MX ERC, or at least the back half of one. It comes with what looked to be a minty MX and a Pentax lens of some sort (guessing M 50/1.7 as that seems to have been the most common), a flash,...

Information

ME Super ERCs are relatively easy to come by - as I understand it they were the ones with "Pentax" picked out in silver on the front (as opposed to the original type with "Asahi Pentax" and the little metal badge next to the lens snout). I've never had any problems with photographic kit via ebay...

I'm on the lookout from various dealers for the cases, being in a small village and in the middle of agricultural country, we do not have any 2nd hand equipment dealers where we are so the easiest for me is through the net. Know of any dealers in UK where I can get them, will appreciate. I do kee...

Information

I'm not sure of the exact year but I think the K1000 was the first (and maybe only of that era?) to be farmed out to Hong Kong. The first models were pretty identical to the Japanese ones with only a few cosmetic changes (serial number moved to baseplate, "Made in Japan" removed from back of top pla...
