1957 and 1958 vintage...

Hi Matt. I don't think that the K has been serviced recently. The test film came back as overexposing by what looks like a half to a full stop, which may be due to the shutter slowing down with age. What are the visible signs of capping on the pictures? I'm using the Pocket Light Meter app fo...

1957 and 1958 vintage...

Interesting - my spotty seems to overexpose by a similar amount! It works perfectly but the scans come back very pale (same scanner settings I use on film shot with other 35mm bodies, which are fine). It could be the mechanism slowing down or more likely the metering just isn't as accurate as that i...

1957 and 1958 vintage...

Update on these beauties: the AP is now back and working like new from Robin at Harrow Technical. I've now managed to get a pre-set 58mm/f2.4 for it, so now I'm enjoying running film through it: What's interesting is that the lens came attached to what was advertised as a 'Honeywell Pentax H...

Pricing S/H gear

You could certainly get a very good second hand Pentax body for £250 (and you're not too far shy of a new one either) which would allow you to use your existing screw mount lenses with an adapter, however, there are a couple of caveats: Firstly, you wouldn't be able to use them in shutter-priorit...

Pricing S/H gear

A slight addendum to Hefty's comments... With M42 Takumars you can put the camera in Aperture Priority mode and use the Auto/Manual switch to close the lens down to take the photo (i.e., focus wide open, shut the lens down with the lever, take the shot, open it up again). I find the Taks quicker ...

Pricing S/H gear

Well, I'm now in the same situation! Considering buying a Tamron 70-200mm f2.8 in a month or two when I get paid for the current contract, however I'm thinking I'll get rid of a few of my unused bodies and lenses to help fund it. Thing I can't decide is whether to sell them here or see what part exc...

Modern lenses on old bodies!

I was pleased to see that my Sigma 10-20mm appeared not to vignette after about 15mm! Should be getting my shots back soon to confirm. The 18-55 seemed OK after about 24mm. My Tamron 17-50 vignettes with excatly the same image circle at any focal length :|

MX and Winder - Noisy but Nice!

Nostalgia is a great thing, I've recently purchased a black MX and a Winder. They look fantastic together and although quite heavy compared to todays "lightweights" they feel great in the hand (The MX was my first real SLR back in 1980 but in never had a winder at that time) The only thing that s...

MX and Winder - Noisy but Nice!

I think they're generally pretty noisy, but a service couldn't hurt given the age of the combination. I've just picked up a jammed MX (think a previous "repairer" put it back together wrongly) with a view to having it repaired and serviced to give me a reliable backup body alongside my currently wor...

MX and Winder - Noisy but Nice!

I didn't want to risk it with film, but then again as long as the lens cap is on there is no harm done as I can always wind it back.

Real cheap online processing service

I use - it's £1.99 a roll (+VAT and postage) for C41 and E6, 35mm or 120 rolls. Quality is very good and turn around usually very quick (I send my films off on a Monday morning and they're invariably back on Wednesday morning).

Real cheap online processing service

I shoot a lot of C41 120 film and very little 35mm, so Genie have been a godsend to me. I tend to send several rolls at a time though as the postage cost per roll works out a lot cheaper than sending them individually. They always come back via 1st class recorded delivery and the negatives are sleev...

ESII meter behaviour

I have just got my ESII back but the meter isn't behaving as I would expect. When one presses the shutter button the meter needle drops then slowly rises back up to 1000. Changing the aperture have no impact on the needle. My first thought was the batteries so I swapped them for the set in my M...

LX FF-! Viewfinder dimensions

I've owned a Pentax LX for five years or so and had been searching for an FF1 viewfinder. Recently I acquired one, and what a disappointment! The tiny image makes it practically unusable. There's no way I could ever focus or see the exposure information holding the camera at waist level. The FB1...

ES and ESII cases

Another ES question I'm afraid... My ES had a special case because of the unusual battery housing on the side of the camera. Does anyone know if there was a special ESII case? The batteries were changed to 4 x LR44s underneath the lens housing and the bulge where the battery is on the ES was ...

ES and ESII cases

Hi, No catalogue but I have a couple of cases for mine with the ES badge on the front in place of the usual AP logo but no place for the front badge. These may be to tops of the ES case with a Spottie back or a case for the ESII. I have another look when I get home. Kim

MZ6/7 or PZ10?

Some of the MZ series also support power zoom (although only the powered zoom and lens retraction functions), not entirely sure which but obviously they have the extra contacts. I could still do with a new focus screen for my MZ-10, although I'm avoiding spending anything for a month or so as I'...

Inside a K2

Excellent article - I hadn't seen that before. :) It's generally due to dirt. Is yours "truly" stiff or just awkward. I always had difficulty with mine until I found the knack of doing it and then it became quite easy. Kim Aside from the ISO selector ring an excellent camera. Speaking of wh...
