Pentax LX

It probably was at one time, but given the LX is manual focus and increasingly expensive I'm not sure it's ideal for diving? I'd be more inclined to get a cheap MZ series body and lens then find an enclosure for that, as if it does go horribly wrong you haven't drowned something quite so irreplaceab...

Criminal?

I rather like it actually, but I'll be really impressed if he can put it back together again. Dangermouse there were (are?) a few cameras on display at the Science Museum in a sort of 'tech through the years' display. I have some photos somewhere, I have a vague memory of there being a Pentax the...

Criminal?

It looks like one of my middle son's projects. He was forever taking things apart to see how they worked, and was rarely able to get them back together. At least nowadays when he takes something apart he can generally put it back into working order again, though I suspect the Spotmatic in question ...

*ist maybe?

The *ist is the most likely to cover what you need, although ironically I personally prefer the shutter speed dial of the MZ5 and MZ3 cameras. I presume you want mid-roll rewind to change film types, so have you considered adding a second film body and having two types of film loaded? It would co...

*ist maybe?

The problem with faults with film bodies is you don't always know you got a problem until your rolls come back from being developed. My *ist had a sticky shutter which wasn't evident in use. Probably came with it but I didn't run a check roll through it before going "down under", so can't be sure ei...

Which MZ ? cheap as chips for colour slide?

I picked up an MZ6 last year and found that under certain conditions it can be used with the 18-55 (Mk1) kit lens. i.e. from 24mm upwards, vignetting is obvious in the viewfinder at shorter focal lengths. Totally agree - I sometimes stick the same lens onto my P5, and the vignetting has gone ...

Best place to buy 35mm film

A 10 day turnaround is like going back to the dark days of the 1970s when a simple D&P package would take 3 weeks from that lab in Stevenage that Dixons used. How can we stand the suspense waiting so long? Anyway, how was the quality of the film you sent? Was the colour good?

Best place to buy 35mm film

Hi guys, title says it all really, I've decided to have a go at using film, (not doing the developing myself!), so if anyone can give me any advice on places to buy/develop film it will be much appreciated. Ben Best deal I have found recently is at Poundland. Kodak ColorPlus 24exp-ASA200 for - you ...

Best place to buy 35mm film

Best place to buy 35mm film

I second Silverprint for buying film - very wide stock, although I am in London and use waterloo station everyday (which is broadly where silverprint is) so it is very convenient. They also do B/W film processing and offer what I reckon is a very good service. I have used the Ilford lab as well ...

Best camera for use with M42 lenses

Cant go wrong with a Spotmatic II. Had one from new, which was back in 1974. Still going strong, only replacement was the light seals around the film access door. I bet my K10D wont be serviceable for thirty plus years. But I need not worry about that, as I wont be around, let alone serviceab...

Developing tanks, old but boxed. Info?

Don't worry if you haven't got the agitating pin. Inversion agitation by turning the tank upside down and back is far more reliable and consistent.

film when travelling?

The only film I have had a problem with is Tri-X. I tried the visual inspection route through Heathrow and was told there was no chance in hell of that.... :( I don't seem to have had any problems with Kodak BW400CN. I try and buy it there then ship it back. K.

film when travelling?

Thanks for the advise guys, I'd probably get my friend to bring only what I need then, hopefully it'll only go through the scan once, so if it all goes pear shaped it's still not that bad :P Though I'll be taking them to the Balkans in May, would be interesting then , might even have to get them de...

Camera repairs - London

That's a Pentax-F autofocus lens. It would work on your P30 but AF lenses (this range especially) aren't particularly nice to focus manually as the mechanism needs to be free for the AF motor to cope (as opposed to your 50mm which has a greased screw thread mechanism giving some resistance for smoot...

Camera repairs - London

That lens will be more sought after than the Pentax-M lenses as it has the Auto aperture setting, which means you can use all exposure modes on digital. I doubt they'll accept an offer much lower than the BIN price as a result. It would also work in Program mode on your P30. The lack of AF on th...

Z1-p body

Hi, Am I correct in assuming that the contact on the lens mount that is used to power the 28-105 zoom will also drive the autofocus motor on the latest Pentax lenses? I know the K-5 uses the focus motor contact to drive the power zoom, so I assumed it would work the other way around. Thanks...

Z1-p body

The PZ functionality didn't offer too much additional functionality and drained the Z-1(p)'s 2CR5 battery too much to be of any real use. I used mine almost exclusively in manual zoom at the time. The Z-1(p) doesn't know anything about SDM lenses and doesn't have the logic to focus them using the...

Agreed, it is not much use without the focus tracking.

1957 and 1958 vintage...

You may be right, hefty1! ;) When the AP comes back from t'menders, I won't be putting the semi-auto lens back on it for use, as there's no mechanism for pressing the lens pin for the diaphragm release. I'll probably use a slightly later Auto-Tak with an auto/manual switch until I can get my mitt...
