Horses for courses really. It would be a little foolish to attend, say, a motorsport event and steadfastly refuse to use burst shooting (because it isn't embracing the true art of photography) only to return home with no useable pictures. Similarly though, there are many applications where it ...

picture taking

The Pentax LX with a motordrive (and probably a NiCAD powerpack) could shoot an entire 36 exposure roll of film in 7.2 seconds and an entire 250 exposure bulk film back in less than a minute... As photographers we have lots of tools available, many for quite specialised functions. Some get misus...

Price check on some film bodies and lenses

Bodies can vary a lot depending on condition - anything between £20-80 would seem reasonable. The F is slightly more desireable but black cameras (any model) tend to fetch more money, which evens things up. Say about £50-60 each. SMC Takumars fetch more than Super-Takumars as a rule (see exceptio...

Price check on some film bodies and lenses

Sad to say I was leaning to that conclusion. Mine awaits a cheap SMC Tak 55mm f1.8 (they must exist - I had a very nice Pentax-F 80-200mm for a tenner last week which is perfect now I've wiped a bit of mould off the back of the front element). At present the only M42 lenses I own are an SMC Tak ...

K1000 on ebay

Just had a closer look, the back door is a little unusual - it seems to have "Made in Japan" etched on a metal plate. That said, this still just looks like a second batch K1000 with some fabric glued on. Sad to say, I don't think Trading Standards would be interested or able to do anything. They...

K1000 on ebay

Let us not confuse Hong Kong and Taiwan, with China. In the early to mid seventies, China was being run by Chairman Mao and was a very different place to the China of today. Very hostile to the west, especially Japan, from whom it suffered greatly during World war 2. China, back then, was not very i...

K1000 on ebay

For the Pentax-M series nearly everything was standardised at 49mm. Most of the K series were 52mm. Pentax 49mm snap on lens hood is sufficient. What he's playing at is actually quite nasty  anyone searching for "Pentax 28mm f2.8 lens" actually gets all he's junk in the search  ...

K1000 on ebay

Don't forget to factor in shipping. I could never work out how he managed to get such a huge amount of feedback. K. When he started this 'new' site on ebay he sold loads of items at 99p, thereby getting good initial feed back. I know because I got several manuals from him for just that ...

K1000 on ebay

A lot of these dealers know crafty tricks about getting feedback removed or they make very generous offers in exchange for positive feedback. I had a problem with a lens once and the dealer told me to keep the lens and he would do a full refund as long as I gave +ve feedback which I did...... did I ...

Film - developing and transfer to CD. Recommendations?

John, I also use a 'Heath-Robinson' arrangement which works reasonably well, and which I mentioned in another post a while back. I use my Canon Ixus 750 digital compact to photograph a slide in one of those viewers you hold up to the light, but placed on a lightbox. Used on 'tulip' (close-up) m...

Ilford SFX/IR filter/KX - advice?

I recently bought and loaded a roll of Ilford SFX, and now the IR filter has arrived I've got all the stuff to use it. Problem is, the KX has a match needle display which you can't read with the filter in place! Any ideas? Someone out there must have used this stuff extensively and be able to offer ...

Ilford SFX/IR filter/KX - advice?

Right, as I've now shot and developed a roll of this stuff with apparently good results I can offer some pointers to others who might be tempted to give it a go! Ilford recommend that you use the smallest possible aperture so that depth of field can cover for uncertain focussing caused by IR ligh...

Ilford SFX/IR filter/KX - advice?

Don't forget that many older Pentax lenses have a red-mark for adjusting focus for IR. Cheers, Kris.

Ilford SFX/IR filter/KX - advice?

Yep, I should probably have used a lens with that (the 28-50mm doesn't have one)! Next time I'll probably make the effort to use my 55mm and 28mm primes, the 28-50mm lives on the KX as a good all-rounder. I bought a cheap 52mm R720 filter from Amazon, you can probably get much better ones if you...

MX hotshoe problem

Its an awful long time since I owned and MX but had the same problem. I think this is what I did. Prize up the metal spring plate in the hotshoe fom the front and slide it back, undo the screws now revealed and the hotshoe will come off, you might find a loose wire.

Fujichrome Sensia

I just found a few old process-paid Sensia films at home :P - they must date back to 2001/2 but I shall run them thru the MZS this weekend. My process-paid envelopes have Leamington Spa as the address - is this still current? Any idea whether they will still process them?

Fujichrome Sensia

I just got some slides back from them last week. The note that came with them states that for the rest of the year there will be no change and implies that it prepaid films will be accepted beyond that.

Fujichrome Sensia

New use for K1000 ?

I think I may have figured out how to put my old K1000 back to work, since the only thing really wrong with it is the light meter being sincerely deceased. I just never really got the hang of hand-held metering (and I have two) with a camera that's NOT mounted on a tripod, like with my old 6x6. It n...

Pentax Z1 75 years edition and 28-70mm lens

Yes the Z1-p does do that. I have one and always leave it on that setting. Superb viewfinder, much bigger than my K-5. Everytime I use it, I find myself looking at the back after I have taken a shot! Nothing there of course! :P Mine came with the pentax 28-105 f/4-5.6 power zoom lens.
