Pentax MX

Thanks for the suggestions of what to look for and check on a used MX. Mine appears to be OK so far, probably the seals need replacing as mentioned. Would it be a good idea to get it serviced ? What does a service involve ? and what would you expect to pay ? Any recommendations as to whe...

I had a Miranda 28mm lens awhile back and got good results with it, don't know about the other lens. As for the camera you got a good buy with all that kit. If you need some batteries PM me your address and I'll send you a pair.

Where doe's the MX sit ?

I am not after a direct comparison in features between the MX and today's DSLR's but where about's it would sit from the bottom of the range to the top of the range. So let's say at the time it was not the best SLR around but was far from the worst it might be a Nikon D300. Like I say I'm not...

Where doe's the MX sit ?

I know what you mean. Ironically I bought an FM2n as an "upgrade" to my MX years ago (1/4000 top speed, 1/250 flash sync, better made, titanium shutter yada yada yada). However, the MX kept finding it's way back into my camera bag, whilst the "superior" FM2 stayed on the shelf. There's somet...

Pentax MX Light meter

If you use slide film, tip the camera down a bit to exclude most of the sky when metering otherwise it tends to be about 1/2 a stop out. Or meter off the grass. Off topic, I just got a roll of slide film back from my ES I picked up on ebay a little while back. I am pleased to say the metering i...

Prepaid Film

Just got back from posting it at the post offcie and you are quite correct shim. It was just a tad too wide for the large letter guide slot. The postage was £1.28 1st class in the end, 2nd class would have been £1.08. If you were to just put a stamp on and put it in the letter box not sure if ...

Slides to Digital.

I have an Acer 'Scanwit' but it's an old thing with a SCSI input, and SCSI doesn't work on my Win XP PC, so I had to purloin the kids' old Dell Optiplex and stick Win ME on it - scanner works a treat, though; great images. I have used an optical method which works well: Mount your light-box on i...

John... I remember you saying this before which has been one issue on the back of my mind. Well I have just bought the Minolta second-hand from Gary (thank you!) so I'll have to make it work one way or other. I have been thinking about and looking at scanners for quite some time but the cost put m...

Sadly, I missed the focus back in 1982. The cat didn't hang around for a second attempt, I remember. I still have Mum's cheese plant!

Slides to Digital.

I have a Plustek 7500i - I bought it to scan my old 35mm negs. It's actually very very good indeed. It cost just over £200 How did you find the experience of using this machine? I have boxes of my Grandads and Dads slides that could do with digitising. I understand it's a slow process but how go...

Pentax MX focusing tips

I understand the principle on how to focus the MX but when outside in brighter light or without a good vertical to use I am having trouble. I know this is probably something that takes a little time to learn but has anyone got any tips I can use on focusing the MX ? Jason

Pentax MX focusing tips

I get on better with the split prism so it really is a case of each to their own... If I'm taking a picture and there is no good vertical line I simply move the camera into portrait mode, use a horizontal line, then flip the camera back down again.

Pentax MX focusing tips

The viewfinder optics result in the focusing screen being effectively about 1 metre away from your eye. If you need glasses for reading or for your computer screen, try using these when looking through the viewfinder and you may find that suddenly it becomes very easy to focus. There are eyepiece...
