New (latest!) toy
Smash potato that brings back some memories - what was the dreadful blancmange equivalent? Angel delight was it? I live a sheltered life - I'm amazed that in 1974 they were using sail to power the boat. I suppose it might have been fun - interesting at the very least. Mike

New (latest!) toy
The boat had been bought for sail training purposes. I jumped aboard in Jamaica for the trip back to England. It was quite tough; sometimes great fun; sometimes rather hairy; and often rather monotonous. Being 100 feet above the deck when the boat is rolling is interesting. You're doing 10 k...

Good Setup?
Sobriquet I hope you don't mind me going off topic slightly. But I am interested in your trip to Afghanistan as I have been there myself a couple of times in the past, fortunately before the current climate. I was there first in 1978 in the days it was still possible to travel overland all the...

P30T with the mirror stuck in the up position
My daughters P30T has "frozen" with the mirror stuck in the up position. Bearing in mind all the warnings of dire consequences of pulling the mirror back down by hand I have resisted the temptation to give it a push. I have tried exchanging lenses, taking the lens off altogether, removing the batter...

P30T with the mirror stuck in the up position
Thanks for the advice. I gave the mirror an ever-so-gentle tweak with a toothpick and it came away from the rubber easily but just sprang back up when I released it. I'm hoping that I'm looking at a duff new battery here on my desk and that a replacement will solve the problem. I'll keep you up-date...

P30T with the mirror stuck in the up position
As film cameras are now not worth a carrot, I feel you'd be wasting good money trying to get it repaired! It does rather depend on the camera. You are right, the P30t has a low resale value but the LX often sells for over £200, the MZ-S almost never appears second hand, the original Asahiflex cam...

Where to have E6 processed
I've found the Darkroom in Cheltenham to be OK - £5.50 a roll process and mount - still use the plastic boxes but don't mark the exposure number on the mount.:( Otherwise, there is always Fuji Labs. They have changed licencee in the year just gone, and were "off line" for some time as a result (he...

Where to have E6 processed
Forgot all about this post but just to give it a happy ending.. I got two rolls back from the Darkroom in Cheltenham and results were very good. Many thanks to all the above.

Half frame Pentax?
The body was used on Pentax Fibrescopes for industrial and medical medical purposes. We used one for Gastro-enterology research. The viewfinder only showed a cropped area of the end of the fibre optic bundle. The PA-M55 relay lens acted as a macro lens to bring the fibre bundle into focus. The mete...

Wanted Pentax MZ 5n body or advice on another option
My daughter is using my Pentax MZ 5n for her A level photography but the camera had developed a fault. It doesn't wind on fully and you get frames overlapping a little. I had this fault repaired before she started the course but it has started up again. I was looking to buy a new camera body as I th...

Wanted Pentax MZ 5n body or advice on another option
You are not having mine......LOL A low mileage model had since new... How things change, I paid £300 for mine, in a sale (was £450) back in 2000, but 12 months later mainstream DSLR's appeared. Still I will not part with it, I like it too much. If you can get a good one on flea-bay, then get ...

Wanted Pentax MZ 5n body or advice on another option
The MZ5 and MZ3 are the two body types that operate the same way - that is, they have conventional shutter speed dials. You could interchange using these without so much as blinking. So are both of these Autofocus models? I know the MZ5m is a manual model The MZ-5, MZ-3 and MZ-5n are all autofocus, ...

Wanted Pentax MZ 5n body or advice on another option
I was going to go back to the repairer, but the problem is they want the camera for "up to two weeks" and she can't be without a camera for her course at the moment. She can manage but she just has to crop the images when she prints them and allow for this when she shoots. I'm going to keep check...

What is the best Pentax 35mm film SLR?
Pentax LX. Interchangeable viewfinders and focusing screens, power winder or motorwinder, off the film metering, mirror lock-up etc etc. One problem... still a bit pricey. In second place, the MX. Manual only, small, built beautifully, range of interchangeable focus screens. Cheaper than the L...

What is the best Pentax 35mm film SLR?
MX gets my vote, together with a M 50mm 1.7 Then you are really in control. Manual focus;manual shutter speed;manual aperture;manual ISO; manual film advance. There is a light meter so you are not entirely on your own.

What is the best Pentax 35mm film SLR?
I love the manual control buttons, though some don't! My index finger still gropes for those buttons on autopilot. I liked them too as I found it easier to change speed without taking my eye away from the viewfinder. The lack of DOF preview is an issue - although, as an earlier poster said, you...

What is the best Pentax 35mm film SLR?
The debate continues...Looking back through this thread (as a community) you tend to rate the MX above the ME Super; I suppose it's down to cost then - what's the major difference between the MX and ME Super in terms of price and features?

What is the best Pentax 35mm film SLR?
MX. Manual only, DOF preview, will work (except the light meter) without batteries, interchangeable focus screens, aperture visible in the viewfinder via a little window. ME Super. Aperture priority automatic and manual, no DOF preview, focus screens not interchangeable, only fires at 125 sec w...

What is the best Pentax 35mm film SLR?
Two letters: MX :D Followed by ME Super In 3rd I'd suggest a P30N, this has DX coding , and can be used in auto or manual modes, and there available cheaply. You can also use you digital lenses with manual focus as long as they're above 24mm As for film, ebay for cheap stuff until you;re c...
