What is the best Pentax 35mm film SLR?
I recently picked up an MZ-6 + FA28-90 lens in excellent condition for £36. I also recently picked up an MZ-6 with a Sigma 28-105 lens amd lowepro snoot bag for £55. But no user manual and Pentax don't have it listed for download  I ran a search on e-bay and found to my surprise that you pu...

What is the best Pentax 35mm film SLR?
Yes I did buy one, advertised as English, image showed it was English. I received one . . . in Italian. It's going back to the seller who's name just happens to be . . . pentaxuseruk. Not my favourite ebayer...

What is the best Pentax 35mm film SLR?
I think he is a she (s/he changed ebay username a little while back) and no, I don't think I have seen them on here. Just someone making a buck buying kit on ebay then re-selling it at 4x the cost. Relatively poor ebay rating.

What is the best Pentax 35mm film SLR?
I have the LX and MX, but the one I use quite a lot is the Pentax SFXn, it has "Trap Focus" and can be useful for wildlife subjects.

What is the best Pentax 35mm film SLR?
I loved my MZ5 more than the Z1 or Z1P I had, MZ5 best auto focus film Pentax. LX most desireable luxurious Pentax. MX just the best Pentax ever, there's nothing it can't do, 25 years later mine is still functioning perfectley. If they'd brought out an MXn and put mirror lock up on it it would...

Focus screen query
My P30 has a focussing screen with a rectangular (with rounded corners) area around the split image circle. This is just a bit small to be a perfect "rule-of-thirds" guide, but is easy to use that way. I have never seen or heard of another screen like this. The camera was bought s/h in a general s...

Focus screen query
I haven't seen one and the P30 wasn't designed to have user-interchangeable screens, however, that doesn't mean that a previous owner who was handy with a screwdriver couldn't have fitted one. If you get a screen of the right thickness then it can be trimmed down to fit pretty much any ca...

mz-m and lens questions
Since the MZm is a manual focus camera your best bet is to stick with K or KA mount lenses. Forget the 18-55 it wont work. Pentax "K" mounts are the same, the only variation is electrical contacts, AF drives and aperture actuation levers, any Pentax lens will physically fit any Pentax body, but i...

Couple of film cameras
I've still got an SF-Xn.... very under rated camera well worth getting a battery for. From memory the AF was very precise and gave good confirmation with manual lenses. Being powered you have to be careful not to wind the film back until you've taken all the shots. Can't remember what was different ...

Pressure plates and/or rollers causing scratches on negs
It shouldn't be too expensive or difficult to replace the pressure plate, or entire back. Which body is it?

Pressure plates and/or rollers causing scratches on negs
If you don't fancy doing it yourself I can highly recommend Harrow Technical. My ME-F came back last week with it's dodgy electrics fixed, the sticky foam changed (I know I can do this myself but I couldn't fix the electrics) and generally cleaned, lubed, adjusted and calibrated. I took it out this...

A praise for the MX
I bought my first second hand in the summer of 1993. I was smitten. Sadly, it was stolen along with various other items (my 135mm, my 28mm, my wife's Olympus...) on the Paris metro. I replaced it about four years ago with an ebay purchase but sadly it hasn't seen as much use as my LX which I got ...

A praise for the MX
To my mind the Pentax K1000 was the Spotmatic with a bayonet mount. However, for me the Pentax MX had a far better and more accurate meter than the K1000. This was very noticable when using red filters. Back in the days of film, I used to use a Pentax LX for slides and a MX for MonoChrome. The...

A praise for the MX
I was talking to David Leung on the coach to Focus on sunday and he says he has 30 Pentax MX's in Stock ! I bought my MX and ME Super off him in 1986 together with a 120mm f2.8 Pentax-M lens and my ex-wife went off with that lens! e-mail : [email protected] and phone: 0208 590 3268 or 8599 0r 66...

A praise for the MX
Oh yes it is! It's what I've been using for the past, er, some years, and it's not a problem. Why do you find it unsuitable? Because I'm afraid of scratching my glasses against it. And if you back out a bit, you can't see the whole screen. Side note: Just noticed that I'm a "pentax master" now...

A praise for the MX
I just noticed that if I try to focus my eye in the middle of the viewfinder instead of the screen, I see a small vertical line. Is this normal?

ME meter vs handheld
People do talk about dynamic range with 35mm but I worked out how to get good exposures for slides from the ME Super just by experience. (I spent most of my film years shooting slides as I used them for lectures.) As you know, slide film is very intolerant of bad exposure, even by a single stop. I...

Partial return to film

Hello Ladies...
Update... Just done new seals on one of the MXs (the one on the left), and gave a bit of a cleaning. It really is a pitty about the brassing. You can't really see it with the bright lights but its got a fair amount of scuffs around the body... Still much better than some stuff I've seen on the b...

Hello Ladies...
Update on the cleaning. I've used cotton q-tips covered with a cheap glasses cleaning wipes and very gently cleared the debris and stains from the mirror. Its not pristine, but its very good now. However, looking from underneath, I now clearly see that some of the spots on the focus screen aren...
