New member pondering a new Pentax camera?

Thanks Bruce, just the advice I was looking for. I know it is a big jump from the K10D for me but in the end I hope to be able to use this camera for years to come. Thanks everyone for your assistance in my search for a new Pentax. The plan will be to order it sometime in the next two weeks. ...

New member pondering a new Pentax camera?

Good evening Stu, I was very excited when the Ist Ds came out! I paid full price as it was still warm out of production. : ) The camera impressed me a lot. My first DSLR! My wife uses it now and really likes the camera. She found it easy to use and is happy with the quality and size. The K10 w...

New member pondering a new Pentax camera?

A slightly belated welcome from one rev to another! In respect of that last question - some questions back with a couple of things to try. Is the Shake Reduction on? Press INFO button to see on rear screen. If you are trying to follow a moving subject, then the SR will cause blur. If it is a sta...

New member pondering a new Pentax camera?

There are user-defined modes on the exposure dial which I make use of; for instance for the Sigma 150-500mm lens I have set SR off, spot focus, back button focusing, TAV mode etc. so with a simple click it will all be ready. I believe the K-3 has three such, so plenty of choice to suit different sit...

New member pondering a new Pentax camera?

I think the K3 is a big step up from the K50. It's mostly about pairing the right camera to the intended photographer, their experience, and the degree to which they intend to exert direct control over the image capture. The 'Flagship' Pentax models, apart from the more often shouted about features...

Hello and a Request For Help Please!

If the dealers you ask don't stock Pentax (or some other camera you're asking about) of course they're going to try and sell you something they do have. If they'd had a K-50 or similar surely they'd have wanted to sell you it, sounds like they'd have been glad to get rid of it. I don't think it is ...

Hello and a Request For Help Please!

Back Button focussing is also a useful technique to learn, basically it means keeping your thumb on the AF button, which then continuously focusses on the subject, and your finger on the shutter release, since I learned and remember to use this technique, I've got much better images of birds in flig...

Pentax K-m Auto Focus Calibration

Hi, Thanks for helping a newbee. I have a Pentax K-M (2000) that is slightly out of focus on all three lenses. I have cleaned the lenses and had the camera body cleaned. The photos have a frosted look like a clear mat finish. I have seen several articles on adjusting the Auto focus on Pentax an...

Pentax K-m Auto Focus Calibration

The K-r was the first "entry level" Pentax DSLR to have auto-focus fine tuning. The K-m doesn't have it unless you go down the route of hacking the firmware. I did this on my K200D (th model before the K-m). It's not difficult but you have to be very careful and be aware that you run the risk of ...

Pentax K-m Auto Focus Calibration

On the K-m you can use the Debug Mode (various tutorials on how to do this are on the web), but the problem is you can't do it for individual lenses, it is a global adjustment only. Regards David

Introduction from Phil

Hi................ I'm Phil Smith from New Zealand. Of what I've seen, I think this Pentax Forum is very good. I'm rather new to Pentax. Years back, perhaps 25 or so, I was a Canon person; starting out with an FTb and 50 mm lens. I loved it and took pictures all over the world. I up graded to an ...
