Hi and bit of advice

My K5 worked quite happily at -20C in northern Norway, on a dog sled, in a snow storm. It also was quite happy at similar temperatures on board ship photographing the northern lights. Make sure you have spare batteries with you, in a warm place, as the cold depletes them fast. Also take care taking...

Howdy from Southern California

Welcome, Welcome, and thrice Welcome. All people from the colonies are welcome here. I did some work in L.A. and City Of Industry some years back. How far are you from them. CHEERS Vic.

Finding feet.

Hi All, I've just joined the DSLR gang. My last SLR was my old SP1000, which served me well. Naturally, I came back to Pentax and got a K50. I'm hoping to get some decent images up when I fathom out what the hell I'm doing.

From San Jacinto

I began with an Olympus RC35 back in 1979, a wedding present from my wife -- years later in 1998 we retired to San Jacinto in Southern California. I wanted to retire elsewhere but my wife didn't want to move too far from her parents (who lived in Indio, Southern California). I argued that if she ...

Greetings from sussex + a few questions for a 1st time owner

Hi and welcome from me too. I would agree with AndrewA on the Sigma 17-70 if it's a 'general purpose' lens you most need, i.e. one that would be good for portraits, street and weddings. I've owned the Pentax DA 17-70 and now own the Sigma 17-70 F2.8-4 HSM OS, having bought this lens from AndrewA...

Hello from wet Hampshire

Hi all. I've been lurking here for a few weeks now, I signed up at the end of October.. Back in the 70s & 80s I was a big fan of 35mm photography and had a Canon AE-1 (a great camera!) complete with specialist Macro gear (including a diopter attachment for close focusing) a Vivitar series 1 70-21...

Hello from SaraBartlett

Hi Sara, you've certainly gone in at the quality end with that combination! My best advice would be: - Keep your shutter speed reasonably high - 1/500 second or higher, unless you are very expert at holding the camera still. Camera movement will be the biggest reason shots are not sharp, unles...

Canadian From Germany

Hi Welcome to this forum. With older lenses without the "A" setting on the aperture ring you have to use stop down metering. Set the aperture you want on the lens, set the camera to manual mode, compose the scene, press the green button to set the correct exposure, focus the lens then press the...

Newbie from Derbyshire!

Hello All, I've always loved photography and used to always carry a camera in my pocket!! I've obviously changed with the times and nowadays it's a mobile phone and tablet that take up the room! So... I recently decided to go back to Camera-Love... and decided that I'd buy a film SLR. The o...

Hello from Southern Cal

Hi All, I have always appreciated photography but not until the last few years did that appreciation turn into a passion. A Q was my first Pentax camera, purchased mainly so that I could expand beyond point and shoot cameras with a variety of lenses. Out of that grew a quest for interesting old P...

Hello (again) from Leicester

Hello all, I was last here 2 or 3 years ago with my first proper camera. A k5. And nearly hosted some of you at our farm, until we were fogged out at the last minute. Since then I have tried lots of cameras, film and digital, and lurked on lots of forums. None however have the friendliness and...

Hello (again) from Leicester

Hi. Will. Welcome back. I was one of the members who was coming to your farm. I lost my contact address for you and the location of your farm. I was thinking at the time to visit you on my own as I'm just down the road in Kettering. All I remember is your farm is somewhere to the east of Leicester b...
