Introduction from Phil

Yes I do .... But 22 years seems like a lifetime ago. I'd love to go back, not the least for the photographic opportunities, but life has moved onwards so far, that it is only a dream now. The K7 packs a great punch, and offers an extraordinary amount of technology and image capture aids for the ...

Greetings from Wales

A K10 is a wonderful camera, although it's getting a bit old by now. You may find one which has been lightly used and will work well with manual focus lenses. Otherwise a K5 is newer, ruggedly built and produces excellent images if you're prepared to put in some post-processing work. I don't think P...

Greetings from Wales

Hello and welcome:) Another vote from me for the K10. Have a K3 but kept my K10 as a back-up. It produces good images particularly when I use old lenses. 8)

This is not so much an introduction as a re-introduction.

In November 2014 I confess I lost faith that a Pentax FF would ever appear and bought myself a Sony A7. This was not an entirely bad thing as it answered my question about whether FF was worth the investment. Fortunately, I chose to use this with a collection of Samyang primes for which I always bou...

instruction manuals for older Pentax lenses

Thanks John. I'd been hoping that there might have been something about suitable lens hoods, lens caps etc. My eBay purchase will come with only a front lens cap and a temporary cover for the rear lens. It would also have been useful for me to ensure I know the basics of using the focus and apertu...

instruction manuals for older Pentax lenses

Thank you so much John, John K and David. The bdmitrov site was particularly useful and I've bookmarked it. Back to eBay for a PH-S49 hood. I'm using a Pentax K50 dslr and found a great page about using older lenses on the K50 [link=http://support.us.ricoh-imaging.com/node/1536]. I'm really looking ...

It's good you've got to grips with your preferred lens so quickly. So long as you remember to press the green button to set the exposure all should be well. When you're ready you can always post some photos here and/or enter one of the competitions. The kit lens ought to expose OK but it might not...

Hi from Kettering

Spent a bit of my youth doing this pro, with various medium format, having graduated from assorted SLRs. Went through much stuff, from 645 to Blad, and Contax 35mm. Left the hobby for a while, then got back into it via a few compacts and then assorted Canon DSLRs. Never frankly got on with the varia...

Hi from Kettering

Welcome to the forum "Rab"?? It seems we are in the same town. I'm on the Ise Lodge. I'm away for a few days but maybe when I get back we can say hello. I to used to do weddings with a 645 + AF 400 T hammerhead flash guns. That was many moons ago. Bye for now. CHEERS Vic. EDIT. Hello again. I...

Howdy from Texas!

I thought I had posted this the other day, but now I can't find it. I hope I am not double-posting and already screwing up. I am a retired math teacher from the suburbs of Houston, Texas. Although I have been taking pictures for about 10 years, I became serious about my photography about 3 years ...

Return of the prodigal...?

It is some little time since last I posted on this site so I think a re introduction might be in order. Previously, I had a Pentax K-50 plus a 55-300mm Pentax lens, if my memory serves. I was finding it very difficult to get good shots of birds in flight with said 'stuff'. I relinquished my Penta...

Return of the prodigal...?

Slightly surprised that you jumped back in with the same or inferior equipment to what you'd struggled with in the past! Would have thought you might have gone for a good used K5II or even a K3? Karlo

Return of the prodigal...?

Might be worth trying " Back Button Focussing " This is where you have a finger or thumb on the " AF " button on the back of your camera which basically means the camera tracks the subject whilst this is depressed, you then fire the shutter at your chosen moment. IMO a technique worth using.

Parting of the ways...

After several weeks of soul-searching, internet research, making spread-sheets of various factors and checking out the picture I have taken I came to the conclusion that, basically, I seem to get better results with my Panasonic G5 (µ4/3). So I decided to get rid of all my camera gear, except my G5 ...

Parting of the ways...

Thanks for all the good wishes, even the slightly back-handed one. I will be keeping an eye on Pentax (and this board - it can be fun and there are always some good pictures), but I've sort of given up on them as they seem to have given up on anything but DSLRs - my ideal Pentax would be a...
