Inside MX back cover
This is a little bit difficult to explain without pictures! Inside the back cover of my MX, in the right hand side of the top groove (where the cover and case snap together) there is a small spring-type bit of metal protruding (brass coloured). I have proded it and it seems quite secure, not like ...

Inside MX back cover
I don't know what it does but it is there on mine too so I would leave well alone. Best wishes, Kris.

Inside MX back cover
Mr. Gartmore is absolutely correct. All the crank wind film cameras have the counter reset located there. Enjoy your MX - a fine camera!

Pentax ME super question
I picked up a ME super with a SMC Pentax 50 1.7 the other week from a recycle centre, neither in A1 condition. Anyhow couple of things regarding the body. I'm not sure if this is normal or not but the shutter release does not fire without a film inserted (I haven't tried with a film inserted). The...

Pentax ME super question
You mention that your first camera has a SMC 50mm 1.7 lens. If the focus is smooth and glass clean this is a superb lens to start with. You don't say if it;s an A or M lens, if it's an A you could sell on ebay and finance several other lenses, the SMC-A 50mm 1.7 seems to sell on ebay for aroun...

M42 + adaptor or SMC
Okay kind of following on from my last thread. So I have an S1a, this was my late great grandsfathers Its in great condition and works just fine. I had visions of bringing this old camera back to life after 20 odd years. With it he had a 50mm f2 and the 135mm 3.5. I've since added the 28mm f3.5 and ...

Foam kits? CLA?
ME Supers are a dime a dozen on ebay but most will need the seals doing. MXs go for a bit more but are lovely cameras too, and have a few features the ME Super doesn't have although manual only. Both are lovely classics and the best two of the M-series cameras. The others (ME, MV, MV1 and MG) are ...

Foam kits? CLA?
That post was a month ago! Yes, he is indeed still in business and has just done a wonderful job servicing my ME-F and a lens. I shall be sending him my MX and one of the ME Supers when I get back from the US. Best wishes, Kris. EDIT: Just ordered an Interslice kit so that I can do my new S...

Film questions
Four questions, as I am looking to start using film more (At the age of 16, I grew up (sadly) in the digital age) 1) What Pentax film SLR would be best for a beginner.. Im used to using Av and Tv etc on my K20D, rarely manual focus - but then wouldnt mind doing for experience. No true budget but ...

Film questions
1) MZ-5's are as cheap as chips and plentiful, have a look on for the full spec. 2) The main cost with film is in the developing / printing. If you have some out of date film then use it, but I'd say paying money for it is a false economy. 3) Slide film will be developed the way it was shot ...

Film questions
Seems like the MZ-5 is the choice, or at least MZ series. Will my FA50 work nicely on these? And hefty, the idea of the holga in my eyes was that it was cheap and nasty - producing experimental effects. Ill check out the zeiss ikon cameras though, thank you. Do high street stores that process ...

Film questions
If you want to go back to basics (manual focus, manual exposure) go for an MX. Plenty of those on ebay but tend to go for a little more than the MZ series. The K1000 has "iconic" status but IMHO is nowhere near as nice as the MX. The MX was a poor man's LX. As to the more all singing, all dancin...

Pentax camera similar or the same as a rangefinder
I would suggest the Super A. Same size as the others, but more up to date, with a choice of P, Av, Tv and M exposure modes. In addition to the winder there is a motor drive, and TTL flash. It's much the best manual-focus Pentax body having a full choice of exposure modes. And furthermore, it i...

Pentax camera similar or the same as a rangefinder
And I also think that the Super A is Pentax's prettiest-ever camera. If I had a black 43mm, I'd almost go back to shooting film with it. G

Pentax camera similar or the same as a rangefinder
If you wish to compare specifications / sizes / accessories / etc for all the generations of Pentax camera then this is the best place to start: As for prices on eBay, these are a few that have sold recently to give you an idea: MX Recently serviced, good condition, case, eye cup, two (bo...
