Pentax *IST film

When using an M lens and AFS mode, the shutter button can be held down and will only fire when focus is achieved. Which is decribed elsewhere as a feature of the *ist DS Terry It's called "trap focus", it's for setting the focus at a specific point, holding down the shutter release, then waiting ...

Pentax P30 (no cable release) - remotely releasing shutter?

I've just dug out my Speed Graphic catalogue - they do the "Kaiser Autofocus SLR adaptor" for £7.95 - basically a screw thread with a velcro strap - you position the thread over your shutter release button. Obviously it would work with manual focus SLRs without a standard CR thread Jessops list a...

Sorry, I lied! I do have one complaint about the mz50, and that's the autofocus system. It's one point is ok in good lighting conditions, but in poor conditions it just seems to struggle. In most cases, it can't focus at all. Hope it's not just my camera!!!

I've no experience of the MZ50 but it's reasonably up to date and I'd be suprised if it struggled that much. Multi-point AF is overrated and many users elect to switch to single/spot focusing mode. My old but thoroughly reliable SFX can't match modern predictive focus cameras, being as it has th...

They're both AF cameras but you can switch to manual and use your existing lenses. You'll benefit chiefly from advanced metering but can also use AF lenses should you find a bargain or two. The MZ-M is fully manual and pretty good but not as advanced as the 3 and 5. AF lenses can be focused manual...

All Pentax autofocus SLRs can use K and M lenses fully, and meter properly in aperture priority mode, with the exception of the MZ30, 50 and 60, and the *ist series. In other words, with the exception of those bodies mentioned, any AF body will provide all the functionality of a manual focus bod...

Lots of conflicting advice! I used an MZ-50 for a couple of years in addition to a P30T. I had no problems with the autofocus, which I found to be both fast and accurate, but this is not a good move up from the P30 series if you have existing Pentax-A and Pentax-M lenses. My recommendation, al...

Looks good. There is no DOF preview with this model, which wouldn't worry me. It's possible some people might think the data back is worth paying extra for, and bid up the price. Personally, if it went for more than £60 I'd hang fire and wait for another. The seller can read and write (well...

Helen - the Date Back imprints the date and/or time on the image. Whether that's a useful feature depends on your needs :?

Remote alternatives

Hi, That's handy, the seller of that remote is "no longer a registered member of Ebay". I have no idea why, as he received feedback even today?? I've ordered off them, which I'm waiting to find out if I'll still get. I'm hoping that it's just some technical error. Oh well...

Remote alternatives

I've just received the cover. If they ever come back to ebay I recommend it to you all. The photo's don't do it justice at all. I'll do some better ones of it, and show you later. Cheers Liam

Noise levels

I am currently using MZ-M manual focus. Eye sight has deteriated so much I need to change to Autofocus to help. Have used MZ-7, but have found that the wind on and rewind at the end of a roll, seems to be embarrisingly noisy in comparison to my friends Nikons and Canons. Are there any quieter rewind...

Spotmatic F Meter Working?

I have another question about the meter in this Spotmatic F. I've tried a couple of 'Russian' lenses, on the camera body, that do not have any metering pins or arms and the meter is definitely not operational with them... even with the cameras stop down lever set in the 'up' position for 'stop down ...

Spotmatic F Meter Working?

Sorry again... I botched the terminoligy in my last post! The 'Russian' lenses that I tried are actually 'preset lenses.' I found this after posting: http://www.aohc.it/tak00e.htm ... and it brought back some of the things that I used to understand. Rgrds, Owen

Spotmatic F Meter Working?

Preset lenses are used at open aperture to focus, and then a ring is turned to stop them down to a preset aperture for the actual taking of the picture. Auto lenses stop down automatically when the shutter is fired, and re-open ready for focusing the next shot. Semi-auto lenses stop down auto...

Choosing a lens for the Spotmatic F

Back in 1974, when the prices of Pentax lenses were astronomical, there was merit (financially at least) in looking for alternatives. Nowadays, there is no reason at all not to buy proper Pentax lenses of the period, which will invariably be 1000 times better than the alternatives you mention. ...

Choosing a lens for the Spotmatic F

Spot on Ted! Believe it or not, I saw a seller on eBay crowing that he was selling a genuine Super Tak 1.4 - you could tell by the much sought-after yellow colour! So much for talking some of these folk down. Now, I'm currently in the process of laroriously sun bleaching a beautiful 1.4 that had...

Problem with my ist ds when charging photos on my computer

Why would you use Windows Explorer to rotate files? It's not an image editor, it just tells you what's on the drive. Try using the software that came with the camera, I use Photoshop with the *st D and have never had any problems. As to "the file is in use by another program:, that's a memory...
