KX - LX Comparison please
I recently had my K2 stolen, a real bummer as I loved that camera. Eventually I will be replacing it, for the time being I am using an MZ-5 that I am considerably less fond of. So the KX and the LX are more or less the two I am deciding between, I'm really leaning toward a mechanical shutter so ...

Pentax ESII
:( Hi, I went to Japan in 1973 (the year wife No.1 went back to Mum) and bought a Japanese home-market camera the 'Electro-Spotmatic'. Can't remember how many Yen I paid but it was much cheaper than UK price even when I was stung by Customs for Purchase Tax and Import Duty at Heathrow;HOWEVER, I soo...

*ist DL vs. *ist DS2
Two companies that are held in high regard on this side of the Pond are B&H and Adorama. I have dealt with both of them for many years, and they are always on top of things. I ordered a hood for my 45-125 zoom form them, it turned out it was only the outside part. They refunded my money, ap...

*ist DL vs. *ist DS2
...little difference... Perhaps in terms of "paper specs", but definitely not in terms of useability. Here's my list of items that I couldn't live without on the *ist-D, pretty much in priority order: * Wireless flash using the popup flash * AF button on rear with ability to not focus on half pr...

*ist DL vs. *ist DS2
* Wireless flash using the popup flash * AF button on rear with ability to not focus on half press of shutter No interest in the above. * Viewfinder bar graph metering for manual exposure * Vertical grip * Thumb and finger wheels for Av and Tv But all these I would find useful as it'd be...

All Pentax 35mm cameras since 1975 and the DSLRs use the K bayonet mount, and all bayonet lenses ("K", M, A, F, FA, D FA, FAJ, DA) for 35mm or DSLR will fit (but not necessarily work on) any camera body. "K", M and A lenses are manual focus. Unlike other lenses, "K" lenses are styled simply SM...

Need a Link
As usual the forum came through with flying colours. Dave, that's a very cool site with tons of info from K mounts onward. George, thank's for taking time to summarize - you sure know a lot. I hope one day to be able to contribute here as well. Now, back to Dave Selmer. Do you think someone s...

Ha ha, I didn't mean to be blunt, but that site really covers most of it (or certainly more than I could). Cheers back at ya. Dave

Spotmatic TTL Light Meters
I agree that my SPII needs Eric Hendrickson - badly. We're arranging a little trip to Tennessee son. I'll go back to your site to get info on batteries - I'm using Wein's now but if they go and leak - shriek! Betcha didn't think you'd be tutoring me THIS much did ya? All the Best

MZ-S
Hi, I do use an MZ-S and have the manual in front of me. There is no custom function to allow the setting of aperture from the body. The FA-J lenses came out after the manual was printed and so there is no reference there. Effectively the lens acts as though it were an FA lens locked permanently in...

MZ-S
Am I missing something? These are effectively FAJ lenses, which are simply lenses fixed on the A setting. In Av mode on the MZ-S you set the aperture on the body, just as you would on the Z1-P, surely. What's the problem? G Hi George, The problem is that on the MZ-S, the only way to select ...

MZ-S
Wow! I'm surprised at some of you! The MZS is a killer camera! If you're judging the camera by the fact you can't use the junky FAJ lenses then you are really mixed up. Slap on any of the new Limited lenses or any of the thousands of manual focus lenses, F, FA... it's great combo! Did the LX have ...

MZ-S
Hi all I will stick my oar in on behalf of the MZ-S. I have just bought an MZ-S body in lovely condition with battery grip to see if I could/should use it in preference to my MZ-5n (as I am back shooting nearly as many shots with film as with my digital *ist D). First impressions... what an a...

MZ-S
I like to compare the MZS niche market to that of the Leica R series. Those things still have that crazy film advance lever! And forget about auto focus, that's for chumps! Heck, even the shutter speed is set with that wacky dial on the top! Look at that thing! But ooooh baby, what a s...

MZ-S
i too like the mz-s very much. never let me down! I used the Z1-p before. The only point is who did in the past make a date back to put a stamp on each photo????? They should kill that person. The ergonomics are very good, people who uses nikon/canon took my camera and held it and liked the grip...

MZ-S
I have to agree with the 'keep the MZ-S , change the lens' opinions above . I have been using Pentax MF cameras for about 30 years (started out with a KM , then an ME , followed by a couple of MX's and finally my LX's which I still use regularly) . I got an *ist D a while back and sent back the P...

*ist Lens hoods
It also allows you to use manual focus if you have the lens hood stowed backwards on the lens, and makes putting on or removing the lens cap with the hood in place much easier. If you're a bit slow on the uptake like me, you might like to know that the lens hood obscures the built-in flash at the...

Pentax MX numbers - how many produced?
Who knows how many MX were produced in total? AFAIK there were two production runs, started with 4.xxx.xxxx and 9.xxx.xxx It would be interesting to have the total numbers compared with her electronic sister, the ME/ ME super. For these who are too young to remember that camera back in the 1970's...

Pentax MX numbers - how many produced?
Hi Frank, I think that there were various factors at the time and you need to look at other manufacturers and the different types of users as well. At the time the general opinion seemed to be that the pro's would only use a manual camera in case of that dreaded battery failure and the first choice...

Pentax MX numbers - how many produced?
Hi John, I think this is a common perception and perhaps not strictly true. Any camera will have it's weak points and nearly all film cameras will need a service now and again to keep them trouble free. The MX is no exception. I have always found found the LX to be extremly reliable. The "sticky sh...
