Aperture questions about a SFXn

Not quite sure what you're getting at there, David. Most zoom lenses quote two maximum apertures ie. 3.5 / 5.6 (to use your example), this means that the maximum is f3.5 at the shortest focal length (toward wide-angle) and f5.6 at the long end (toward telephoto). This is because you lose light as y...

LX Motor Drive batteries

The motor drive on my LX packed up last week. At first I thought it was just a flat battery, but when I tried to charge it up it just wouldn't charge. So, being a bit mechanical, I took it to bits. Inside, I found two of those little square 9v batteries with the male/female contacts on the top an...

Pentax MG please help

You can't load the film if you can't wind on, so here goes with loading instructions: Hold the cassette in the film chamber, pull the film across and insert the leader firmly between the white "magic needles". Wind on, release the shutter first if needs be. Repeat the sequence of releasing the...

good used manual camera on ebay?

These days, you could mean a couple of different things by "manual camera". There is the manual camera of the Spotmatic, KM, KX and MX type, which has to totally set by the user. Or you could just mean manual focus and be happy to have auto exposure modes of various types. The manual cameras that...

good used manual camera on ebay?

Wow John. Well I guess I don't really know enough what to ask for lol. Hmm well for starters one that doesn't have a readout like my centic panel. The kind that has the little round manual shutter speed setting. I think I just want a lighter weight camera with manual focus, manual shutter s...

good used manual camera on ebay?

Thanks for the suggestions. Yea I saw a P-30 last night on ebay. But i have no idea of the date of most of these cameras, though some look great. I think I'd want something fairly modern. My SFXn is an 89. (though I know that's an AF). I was thinking maybe mid 90's and up. And do the later manual ...

good used manual camera on ebay?

The MZ-M is the UK version of the ZX-M, a great camera for the price but a tad too basic for me. The SFX-n is more capable albeit without multi-segment metering but the ZX-M is only 2 segment anyway and not that much better than centre-weighted. Personally, I'd look for a P30T or Super A (or whatev...

good used manual camera on ebay?

Fiannor, You REALLY don't need a built-in flash. They are very weak, cause red-eye, create very harsh light, can't be fitted with gadgets to soften the light, use up your expensive camera batteries, restrict your choice of cameras, are just another thing to go wrong, increase the cost of the cam...

good used manual camera on ebay?

Good info George. I looked at a canon digital Rebel around christmas. It was probabaly the cheapest Digital SLR and still a 1000 dollars. I wouldn't want a point and shoot and can't afford D SLR prices at this time. I got a new lense and a scanner instead and still paid less than a quarter of the...

body recommendations?

Can anyone let me know their thoughts on the MZ-6? My MZ-3 was sent back to Pentax for repair under warranty and it seems to have "gone missing" in the post on the way back to the shop. Thanks Royal Mail. Again. So, given that the MZ-3 is sadly no longer in production, I'm wondering if I'll be of...

Switching back covers mz-7 > mz-50

I've just treated myself to an MZ-7, and I am about to sell my trusty MZ-50. The 50 is the 'date back' model, the 7 is not. Can anyone advise what is involved in switching the back covers (assuming they are interchangeable).

Switching back covers mz-7 > mz-50

On most cameras you simply open the back, push down on the little spring-loaded pin which forms the top hinge of the back, and Bob's your uncle. G

Switching back covers mz-7 > mz-50

Hi, The MZ 3/5/7/10 are supposed to use the Databack Fg whereas the MZ50 is supposed to use the Databack Fi. I don't know what the difference is but I would check carefully that the Fi is compatible with the MZ7 before you sell the MZ50. Details at http://www.bdimitrov.de/kmp/backs/index.html Re...

Ok, thanks for that. I've got 4 film awaiting processing so I guess I'll see when I get them back what the results are like.

Eyepiece correction dioptres

I also needed an eyepiece correction lens for my K1000. The M ones do not fit well, they are too large (surprisingly) and do not clip on correctly. In my quest to track down something suitable, I have found that a Canon item from the FD era (A-1, FTb etc) is a perfect fit and gives a useful corre...

Program A battery

I remember my battery in my trusty old tank-like Program A packing in. The guy in the shop replaced my one large micro cell with two smaller ones. Camera didn't seem to work properly after that so I chucked them out and bought an MZ-5 (as you do). Obviously now I want my Program A back. Can anyone t...

MZ-7 with dust in the pentaprism

Hi, Does anybody know if the focusing screen of the MZ-7 is easily removeable to facilitate cleaning of the focus screeen/prism ? Regards, Pete Smith.

MZ-7 with dust in the pentaprism

Hi Pete, As far as I am aware the only MZ series camera that has user changeable focus screens is the MZ-S. This is a shame really because most of the SF and Z series had interchangeable screens. In any case, you may have run into problems. The screens themselves are very very soft and easily damag...

MX Focus Screens

Hi, As a result of trying to help Lee out on his MX problem, I tried a few experiments. The LX screens do fit the MX and they are brighter. Using the SC21 (standard LX screen) results in a much brighter finder with crisper microprisms but you need to compensate by 2/3 to 1 stop on the metering. The...
