MX Focus Screens

Hi Kim It may be that not all the screens will fit - I think I have the info somewhere, I'll check.

MX Focus Screens

Hi John, They all appear to be the same size physically and Pentax say that all the MX screens fit the LX. I tried the standard SC21, the all matt SE20 and SE25 and a couple of SA series in the MX. I would have tried the SC69 bright screen but I didn't want to take the LX apart as well. If anyone i...

ist DS manual white balance

Hi, The istDS must achieve focus lock before step 7 above will complete. Set the Auto/Manual focus switch to manual, then stel 7 works even if the lens is not focussed. Regards, Peter Smith.

Choosing SLR camera

I don't understand what you meant by "metal bayonet a railing for the film too", but the Z1-P has the fastest flash sync of any Pentax camera, and is also the most sophisticated camera. The mount and film guides are metal (if that's what you meant). The MZ-S is slightly more rugged and has bet...

Pentax Ist*DS - Lens question

Not particularly - it does have slight movement because it is an autofocus lens and they are not as rock-solid as manual focus ones. Trouble is, it's hard to judge what you define as a "slight rocking" - how slight is slight? If it seems excessive (another subjective assessment!) try another in a...

Spotmatic light meter batteries

Interesting while this light meter converstaion is, can we get back to wht actual battery replaces a Px-400. I opened a camera I got recently and found some unmarked battery with a collar on it. so 1.35 or 1.5v + base would be a WHAT??? and where do you get the collars?

K2 stuck shutter

Just a follow-up, I do have the camera back now. Time will have to tell whether the stuck-shutter issue is gone but judging by everything else I'll guess it is. The camera feels great, they tightened up the mirror action a great deal, much less vibration, and everything seems perfect. Cost a bit ...

*ist DS on the way

Hi all! I'm a very nervous purchaser of a brand new Pentax *ist DS. I've ordered the DS + DA 18-55mm kit last week and I'm impatiently waiting for it to arrive. Anyway, my first real camera was a Zenit EM + Helios 58mm prime lens + National external flash + tripod. I still have this kit and li...

*ist DS on the way

Glad you like it. My *istDS arrived yesterday. So far I've opened the shutter in some very tough places for a camera and i'm impressed with the results. from my limited experience the camera's a better camera than I am a photographer and will serve me well. At some point I'll get a longer zo...

Pentax LX...anyone tried BEATTIE replacement screens?

The LX should be OK with its OTF metering, but presumably cameras like the MX where we are measuring the brightness of the ground glass screen would need to have this taken into account. If you had a three stop increase in brightness this would presumably mean a 3 stop adjustment to the reading. ...

ZX-M question

Still looking at picking up a modern manual camera, and wondered what yall thought of the ZX-M? It appears to be the only manual film camera sold by pentax presently, (on their web site at least). I guess the camera is called MZ something in the UK?. Took me a while just to decide what I ...

ZX-M question

Maybe I should have mentioned money is an issue. I see a few sites about the MZ5n, and on one the body alone ws over 500 us $. I was looking on ebay because I can't spend over 250$, and would love to get one for half that used. The MZ5 I found on the net was over 1000, and it's AF anyway which i d...

ZX-M question

David, The MZ3 and MZ5n are almost identical: Multi-pattern (matrix) metering, DoF preview, built in flash, film winder and manual focussing when required. Both are small, light weight and incredibly robust and have top plate dials (exactly what you are asking for). Older manual focus only bodie...

ZX-M question

Good help guys. I'll do some more looking tonight when i get up, and get back to you. Sounds promising, maybe the prices I saw were old links. Thanks much for all the help everyone. David.

ZX-M question

Thanks for the info Kim C. I was concerned that the K2 had all those diagrams in the view finder, but there's enough in what you said that gives me other reasons. I like the idea of not needing a battery, (maybe it's a post apocyliptic image of me taking snow pictures during a nuclear ice age lol)....

ZX-M question

johnriley suggested that the classic was the MX. I would step back to the Spotmatic. I have several that have been CLA'd and brought up to snuff. I have noticed very little difference between images made with the Spotmatic's comparatively crude metering system and images made with the new Voigt...

autofocus

Page 125 of the manual, under the heading "Selecting the Focus Point (Focus Point)" ;) You use the [Swtch dst msr pt] in the [Rec. mode] menu. You can choose between auto, center spot, and manual select one of the 11 AF points. Matt

autofocus

And i am very glad that we can change the focus point! I found the auto setting to be a real nuiscance, it never knew what I was trying to focus on - maybe my pictures have unconventional composition..... I'm happy now with the centre point fixed as the focus point. :)

autofocus

I'm happy now with the centre point fixed as the focus point. :) :D I love the way people make such a 'song and dance' about the merits of multi-point autofocus and how it is so much better than older cameras with just a single point..............and then switch the facility off! Many people fin...

autofocus

That's me too with the focus switched to centre point only. I can see a poll coming up.
