I also have a K-x and have just purchased some Close-up 52mm filters to use with my Kit lens and my DAL 50-200mm. I have a Tokina 70-210mm SD II with Macro but can't focus on anything closer than around 4-5 feet away. It say its 1:4 but at that distance away the image looks small and its hard to Focus. I seem to get better results from my DAL 50-200mm at the same distance but with Auto Focus.

Once i get the filters i hope to post some images in the Gallery for some c&c.

Look forward to seeing more of your shots.

greynolds999, you've hit the nail on the head dead centre. I also work in IT and get this all the time.

I do enjoy my job and have recently purchased my K-x so that i don't need to spend the rest of my day not at work fixing PC's and other IT stuff.

I suppose if you can be upfront at the start and say this is what it will cost you then people can say yes or no and not waste anyones time and effort.

Frogherder, Welldone you i would have loved to see the look on their face as you chopped up the wood and burned it.

I had always wanted an SLR but never had the money to buy one. Had a few point and shoots and my better half has a nice Olympus something or other that has manual mode and allows a few setting changes to shutter and ISO. Got me interested in a proper DSLR and i had a google. I looked at a few reviews between Canikon and Pentax and for the money i was willing to part with it was the D3000 or the K-x. The reviews were in favour of the D3000 but i didn't want to trust them as the K-x had HD video and the D3000 had none. I might never use this function but it wanted more the none!. Next it was the ISO of the K-x as i have a Telescope and at some point want to shoot the moon.

I still don't have a clue what i'm doing but i'm glad i got the K-x, this forum has welcomed me in with open arms and i'm hoping to visit my local camera club soon and see how it goes. Perhaps one day i might even enter a cometition or two.

Is there any talk of meeting in Scotland (Central Belt) anytime? I'm new to photography i would like to pick some brains and get ideas of where to start.

Don't get much time to play but i'm sure there are plenty of things to snap in and around the house. I need tips as i seem to delete almost anything i point the camera at. Can someone be given the photographic eye? (Hope that make sense)

I look at the gallery and think wow i wish i could take photo's like that. Maybe it's a confidence thing?

I'm sure you can download the WD software as in ISO and burn this to a cd and boot from it. If not look for Hirens Boot CD or Ultimate Boot CD, they come as an ISO and you burn them to CD, you need to use Nero of CD Burner Xp which is free and burn the image to disk, don't copy the file to a disk or it wont boot.

Hiren Boot CD has lots of tools for Diagnostics and recovery. I think the newer version also has a boot to MiniXp which should then allow you to connect to the internal WD drives and you can plug in a USB drive and copy files over. Great tool for IT.

Could be a few things, i've not seen it myself but have a few questions.

Is this a Desktop or Laptop?
Have you checked that you don't have any USB memory devices attached? (It may be trying to boot from them, this includes cameras)
What Operating system should it be running? (Windows XP/ 7 MAC OS/ Linux)

Colud be loose cable to Hard Disk or corrupt boot record.

If the system has a CD / DVD Drive you might be able to boot with a Linux boot disk and copy any files to and external drive. Then you can re-install the OS or take to a repair shop.

My two pennies.

While it's not in th rules, it's in the sellers best interest to put a photo up as they will probably get asked for one anyway. Again as mentioned this could be from another site would still not help with fraud. The more info provided by the seller, the quicker it's more likely to sell.

I'm also sure this works both ways and thats why most sellers will say that you need to pay up front and then they will send the goods. You wouldn't give you car key to someone and expect them to come back later with the cash !!

Try to always do some background checks, Membership Status and length, and previous sales comments.

Why does Win7 tell me I need 'administrator' priviliges when I installed it and nobody else is a user?!!

And Molly's back!
You have the User Account Controls set to do this. You can turn it off or reduce the amount of warnings you get. Control Panel > User Accounts > Change User Account Control settings. It's just extra security.

I'm very new to Photography but have read a little about this. I have taken a few traffic Trails which i think have turned out well. I also have a K-x. I would recommend getting an IR remote shutter release as this allows you to go past the 30 sec mark and use Bulb Mode. With the remote you can set the shutter to open at Bulb Mode and stay open for as long as you need until you press the remote again.

This might help along with the tips from milamber above. You probably need to use manual focus as when it's too dark your K-x will search for something to focus on, Also keep your ISO to 100 - 200. The latest (and i think possibly last) firmware update allows you to go to ISO 100. Lets not forget you will be best to use Manual Mode where you can take full control of the Shutter, Aperture and ISO speed.

Hope I'm not telling you anything you already know.

The last tip i read a few days ago was if using the torch light to paint images use a fabric cover such as a baby sock to block some of the light or it will just flood the sensor.

Stay warm and have fun, hope all turns out well for you. I'll be trying all this for myself soon. I'll post my images in the Gallery.
