I won Phase One Capture One Pro 7 in the ephotozine Christmas give away last year. I was using Elements 10 until this point and must say I use this more often now to process. I suppose it's similar to Light room but I believe it can do some Layer things as can Elements. I am still very but a beginner to DSLR's and it has all the sliders and option I care to tinker with at this moment in time and as I won it a zero price tag. I have tried FastStone and found it done strange things to my EXIF data. Also tried LR trial but couldn't get my head round it at the time. I always ten to shoot in RAW and COPO 7 handles this fine and even has a Pentax K-x profile.

If you used a recover disk to get the system working again I think it would have written over all your files unless it asked you if you wanted to backup, in that case look for a windows.old folder, if not then stop using the system and look for some recovery software and you may be lucky and be able to scan and save some of the images, I used software before to recover failed partitions you'd be amazed at what you can get back in some cases. I Use EASEUS Data Recovery Wizard at work it's paid for software but you may be able to get a trial, I have found it useful in the past but there is also free recovery software, try looking for Hiren's Boot CD or Ultimate Boot CD, these are Linux based like Knoppix but have some cool apps built in to the image.

Hi What was the last thing you were doing before this happened? Did you install anything or change any settings? this could be a few things and as others have suggested if you can remove the hard drive you should be able to get it connected to another working system and try to recover, however if this is the result of a virus your should be careful with that. First of all if you know how, go to the BIOS and check to see if it can see the hard disk in the first instance. Then we can go from there.

Do these have the electrical contact to shut down the aperture? I have cheap tubes just now and was looking for better ones, can you post a pic please?

Kind Regards
