Weekends or evenings only for me, as i would expect for most people. Could we start with a coffee shop crawl. I'm not much of a pub person and would need to drive to get to Falkirk.

As they say three's a crowd and if a crowd turn up then i would class it as a meet.

Never done a meet before so how does it all work? Do we meet to chat? Do we meet at a photo op? Do we do both? I had a CB when i was alot yonger and did a few eyeballs (CB Meet) must be the same but not shooting took place

Ideas / Dates / Locations.

Do i need to wear a red rose in my left button hole

Any more?

I've only been a member since late last year i think it was but i've not heard of any meetings. I live in Armadale which is only around 7-8 miles away and time permitting would be happy to meet some like minded Pentaxians (Only to steal there knowledge). I'm a beginner so it would be good to get tips and advice / ideas. Also something to do as i work to hard and don't often get to play. I got along to the local camera club once, they meet on a Tue or Wed evening, but was working away for a few months so gave up on the idea for now.

I'm trying to find out if anyone knows of a Pentax bridge camera. My brother is planning a purchase around Christmas time but said the he does not want a DSLR, he wants something smaller and easier to use.

He's asked me to help find something. I'm going to do some looking but thought i'd ask here first.

I paid £27 for a Pentax A 50mm f2. It's a great lens to learn with and was a lot cheaper than the f1.7 I would love the chance of a 35mm or 50mm with AF at the £100 mark with at least f2 to still to have good DoF.

I for the last while have my K-x set to spot metering and will either use the AF / AE-L to lock the exposure on what I want to be the darkest area then give it a try. I often need to choose a few different spots or fine one I like then adjust the rest of the image in Photoshop Elements. I have also set the camera from Av to M an set an aperture and shutter speed to get the exposure I want takes a few practice shots which can be deleted later. I'm still a beginner and found comments on here useful and there are some good tips in magazines and on other sites. I used to want my images to turn out like others I've seen on the web but know this will take time, practice and pp skills

A NAS at both house's could easily allow this just leave it on not the PC. I do this at work to our data centre using rsync. My NAS was only £45 without drives and offers https, probably has lots more but it's not open to the net and only on at certain times. Others devices may offers a lot more or less security. You don't need a NAS for this there are other option but these require a but more IT knowledge.

You could also go for Blu-Ray don't know if it's as bad as DVD over time but the capacity is very much better ( so is the cost just now but this might come down).

I've lost 2 out of 3 disks in Raid 5 and had to go back to a tape backup to restore a server at work. I've also been very luck with a CD of my first born, after a few years I manage to get the photos off it, but not all of them. They are now spread over a few laptops and I have a cheap NAS at home with two drives mirrored, and some on live drive. Never meat to miss-lead with my jpeg post at the start. A long time ago I also lost a whole drive as my wife unplugged the of to iron something and I went oh no and she plugged it straight back in. You could hear the binary scream as the drive head stomped on top of it. Luckily I only have a little data on it.

This is totally misleading and inaccurate.

When you edit a JPG image and then save it, some image data may be lost, that is true.

It is not true if files are simply copied from one medium to another. You can do this ad-infinitum and the data will remain unchanged (assuming nothing happens to cause the copy process to be compromised).
Sorry about this I did post a correction later to state I was wrong.

Could you explain that?
Something I read before. Each time you copy a Jpeg and then copy that copy and so on, for some reason the data becomes weaker to a point where you would begin to notice quality differences between the original and the copy of the copy of the copy etc, don't know how many times before you begin to notice. Could be 100's or 1k's. I am guessing that this would be the same for all data all bit being equal.

EDIT *

"WillCopying JPEGS/data as a file on a disk can never(#1) degrade the quality. The file is a series of 0s and 1s, copying simply replicates the 0s and 1s in another place. There is noise but the concept of "digital" data overcomes the "analogue" noise degradation. "

Just read again and this is mostly based on opening and using save as via editing software. Would have been better if I had read more first but never the less as alway ( a little knowledge is dangerous). As far as SSD I've head that at the moment the have a high fail rate but they are still new. I understand that you can recover data from a disk platter (normal HDD ) albeit this can work out expensive. Not sure how you could recover from a failed SSD?

I still stand by my many systems over a wide area method, but you can only do what you can afford. Fingers crossed if free, but not recommended.
