That's no news though is it? I never expected to see Pentax in the Flickr top fives, doubt it would be in the top 10s either.

I am quite surprised Kodak is 5th though in the brands thought Panasonic would be somewhere there, which says a lot as to why Pentax is not there.

The trend is there for the top 5 cameras to match or closely resemble the top 5 cameraphones. I love my iPhone had a 3G and now a 4 and in all likelihood I'd get the new iteration whenever it comes out this year. I will be one of the old heads though that don't see me being able to use it to take pics.

Lens more important than body.

I would consider a s/h K-5 + a Tamron 17-50, or Pentax 17-70.

If s/h is not really to your liking then wait till you can spend 1k. Then buy a new K-5 + a Tamron 17-50 or Pentax 17-70.

I've got to admit Don, if anyone can sell them has to be you . And think you got till the end of March to find even more reasons as to why anyone should buy them!

BTW I am still gonna have a play with one on the 17th...

Well it does everything else right so might as well be able to stand on all four sides to give it an extra edge

A group of our friends were over last night (some male, mostly female) and saw the pictures - they ALL like it and ALL want one (they won't actually buy one of course - they are all late 30s/early-to-mid 40 (so not 'kids'), and (with the exception of the two - female - who have one) think DSLRs are awkward, ugly and 'complicated'. Some of them don't even like walking around with someone else carrying a DSLR. So don't underestimate the impact of 'style', 'fashion' and 'design' - and this is in rural Wales, not Kensington. The non-SLR users all use compacts with LCDs only - and that's the way they want to use a camera. They haven't used any other kind of viewfinder so they don't know actually even realise, really, what the shortcomings are. They would have absolutely no intention of hanging a 70-200 f/2.8 on one.

I actually like the design (particularly the yellow one but must admit I'd want an EVF - and the other DSLR owners agreed.

Was a bit of an eye opener.
Did you tell them it only looks like that cause it has no zoom?

I believe the people that you describe are the people that will first ask how much it can zoom.

Even with the 40mm on my K-5 most comments from not photographers or photography geeks/enthusiasts are "this must zoom a lot" especially after telling them the price. The moment you tell them well it does not "zoom" it is the moment they look at you like you walked out of a mental institution.

Stick a 18-55 in front of the K01 and show it to them again. I think most will lose interest cause then it looks like a DSLR.

I didn't even see the the 22-38 which is a rather interesting lens. Especially if by limited they mean very small size and fast aperture. Could potentially take over the 21 and 40mm with a bit more flexibility

Add to that those responsible for the Q

I am afraid, the K01 will give another reason for Pentax Users to jump and will certainly add very few new users
I don't think the K-01 is a reason to jump. I am not giving up my K-5 and the Pentax glass to go elsewhere. I would have really liked to be able to use them on a much smaller body than my K-5 and I might buy a m4/3 instead of the K01 but that is all there is to it.

What I don't see is the proposition here. I understand that I am not necessary the target but I struggle to see who is.

40% thicker and 20% heavier than the Fuji. It makes me wonder what it has over the Fuji? The same kind of questions I was asking when comparing the D7K and the K-5. What can the D7K have more that adds all that extra bulk.

The fact that Pentax already has 5 primes covering 31 to 43mm doesn't make the new XS lens make any more sense to me!
the other lenses aren't getting media coverage for being "The smallest/thinest" or any other "est" ever made... and where else you gonna find a kit lens capable of competing with the optics of the 40 pancake?
It was definitely a marketing trick so you can get the smallest lens on the header and maybe detract a bit from the fact that the camera itself is twice as big as plenty m4/3.

Could you not get the 20mm 1.7 as a kit? Cause the quality of that lens is pretty great too given the size and the aperture.

BTW if XS lenses are only for the K0whatever series then Pentax lost the advantage of having a single lens line for all its cameras and that is a shame cause if I need to start buying XS lenses cause they are small and light and I cannot use them on the K-5 then the K-01 is out. Might as well hedge my bets with some cash thrown on a decent m4/3s body.
