Maybe the aim was to produce a video focused K-5 as opposed to a m4/3s competitor and truth be told that is what I wanted, a GX1 sized K-mount APS-C Pentax, shame Pentax didn't ask me what I wanted . If I didn't have a K-5 and the K-01 was a couple hundred pounds cheaper I could definitely see the appeal assuming you can get on with the ergonomics and the eccentric looks.

I wanted a camera to take mountain biking and hiking which means it has to be small fast to AF and weather sealed or at least fairly tough. Not sure it meets the requirements really. For a similar amount I could get an EP-3 with the 14mm from Panasonic which is much smaller, well built and very fast to AF.

Then again I already have the 21mm which I like quite a lot and I guess it would still be a bit smaller and a bit lighter paired with the K01 than with the K-5 and the straight lines could mean it is easier to store.

I will decide when the OM-D comes out I think but I was not blown away.

I like the 12-28 quite a lot I am very often on the wide end but the 28 will give me a bit of flexibility to not have to swap lenses as often as the 10-20 I have now. The 16-85 sound very good as long as it is a fastish and constant zoom. Do not have an appetite for long zooms so these two will do me just fine!

I really really do sometimes wonder what is going on with Pentax, do they not have any PR company on hand at all, this interview with Pentax UK's general manager Johnathon Martin is just woeful...

No PR person would allow this to happen...

BJP: But for a compact interchangeable lens camera, don't you think it's too big?
Jonathan Martin: No I don't think so. I think the size of the product is outweighted by the range of lensesthat you can use on the product.
BJP: But how are you going to convince people that have a DSLR camera to go with something that is almost similar in size to a DSLR?
Jonathan Martin: Well, it's whether they want to go with mirrorless features rather than a traditional DSLR.
BJP: What are these mirrorless features that you don't find in a DSLR?
Jonathan Martin: ... design, really. Design.
BJP: So you're basicaly banking on design?
Jonathan Martin: We're banking on design, and on the fact that they are - we know because we've done market research - a lot of Pentax users that have been waiting for a K-mount mirrorless product.
It seems a bit of a clumsy first step. Everything points to the fact that they didn't think of size as a major consideration everything but the fact that they went on and re-designed one of their already smallest lenses and made it smaller still...

If the body size is the price you have to pay to keep the k-mount (I am not convinced about that) then they should have communicated that.

It wouldn't have been that bad had they bothered to re-design at least one of their zoom lenses and shrunk that. However my K-5 + my 40mm is really not that much bigger than the K01... Hm

Hm... quite big based on dpr dimensions/weight. No collapsible/pancake standard zoom. I will reserve judgement until I actually have a play with one but maybe not quite the GX1/OMD alternative I was quite hoping for.

Marked on the calendar really want to hold one of these and see how they feel in the hand. Just checked DPR and it is a bit disappointing that the size really has not been cut down much from the K-5.

I was thinking the same, there are third party videos reseller tech spec lists but go to Pentax and you might think it is all a big spoof

Where have you found weight/size info?

So glad I didn't buy the GX1 in the end. Equally glad I bought all the DA primes for my K-5. If it is on or below £600, can be held comfortably has decent AF and it is smaller enough than the K-5 I am in.
