Pentax K-01

there's rumours and speculations and even photos and sketches floating around.
Why not post the latest ones here?

Pentax is about to release a k-mount Evil class camera based on the k-5 sensor.

According to the rumours it (and the 40mm kit lens) will have a rubberised coating, suggesting to me that it's designed for action. It will work without an adapter for K-lenses, so it's going to be very chunky - some rumours from people who claim to have seen a model, suggest it will be 'brick like'...

yeah since this is the camera I've been begging Pentax to make, I've been following the rumours closely.. and comenting on various sites.. photo rumours, mirrorless rumors ricehight etc..

I'm excited too, apart from the brick part!

the brick part does not matter to me.. there are at least three benefits...
1) as a spare body it will fit neatly into my camera bag and take little space.
2) you can stand it, horizontally or vertically on any flat surface for steady or timer release shots without the tripod.
3) when bolted into a video rig, it will fit quite nicely along side the mic, video light, xlr adaptor, and field monitor...

after all nobody out there is calling the Red cameras ugly...

gosh if they will only show us this much I wonder whether it is not very pretty.

Without a bit of style it maybe difficult to shift these days.

i've seen that on photorumors...
tells us a couple things...
that font is identical to the old font used on the k1000/mx /me cameras.. so the k-mount is assured..
textured surface imply's weather sealing.. as in easy to grip when wet..

That's cos most of us haven't seen one. I hadn't until now. Dayyyumm, that's ugly!

I take your point about functionality with a filming rig but I wouldn't mind something presentable, if not elegant, and agile in my hands... look at the Olympus OM-D for example!

I suppose it depends on who the designers are :-

Engineers whose maxim is "form follows function" and would like the camera to still be around in......years

Fashion designers, who are good with a pencil, and hope that the life is long enough to get to a product launch

Interested to see what is released but dont think it'll entice anyone with a K5 to make a purchase. I assume mirrorless means more rugged. If so could so adventure sports enthusiasts going for something like the k-01 (guessing of course)

Any guesses on what the price might be?
