I thought I would have a browse around a well known auction site in the hope of perhaps acquiring a few cheap photography related items.

Where have all the sellers gone?
Gone to the Far East every one!

Have seen the site referred to by different names, fee-bay, greed-bay etc., perhaps another will be chinesebay.

The DL2 will certainly work well with an R72 filter, it will give hand-held exposures in bright sun - just. You'll need to take a manual white balance off sunlit grass, and preferably shoot RAW. The AF will still work reasonably well because the AF system is also seeing IR. My article over on the right will shed more light on it
Have just quickly skimmed through your article and looked at your web site Certainly got me interested.

Done: Got a camera. Got a lens. got a tripod. Three sets of batteries charged up.

To Do: Get a filter. Learn to spot a picture and composition. Think before I click. Everything else.

In your attempt to come up with something diferent, you have you have created an unusual photograph. The vignetting has created a shape that is almost like a head-dress. Your process has not really created a traditional infrared effect.

However, if you want to explore a more traditional infrared type effect, you would do well to take a photo of an old building, with plenty of trees and foliage around it. Here a simulated infrared process should turn the foliage white, like a frost.
Thanks for your kind comments. The idea came from something I read in an old post by JR iirc, turn on mono jack up red and green and drop blue to zero, add a bit of contrast and whey hey an IR pic. It cures CA if nothing else

I've already experimented with an old castle in a previous post, lots of things wrong as regards the framing etc but the effect looked "spooky". I'm hoping to get an IR filter and try out on an old *ist DL2 which I believe can be used for IR with a filter. Not keen on having it modified at mega bucks though

I like it! It works as it is, have you tried lowering the opacity of the gray halo? There's more of the halo on the top than on the bottom, but otherwise a nice BW photo.
I have the original photo and will certainly try out lowering the opacity and balancing the top and bottom of the gray halo. I think every experiment is progress in the steep learning curve which is photography. Thanks for your encouraging comments.

On the contrary Stan, you'd have a much clearer view through the viewfinder. So you'd have no excuse for not spotting those bits of detritus! I can't understand why you'd think FF would cause a problem, unless you mean your lenses would have a wider fov, in which case, use a longer lens
I tried a longer lens 300mm and it just looked 300 times worse than my 10mm
No, seriously its the ability to spot a photo I need to work on. I'd really like to see what a photographer sees and maybe it will happen but I'm happy learning the ins and outs of the camera and ruining what I've caught with photoshop and if I get a pleasing photograph that is a bonus.

All FF would mean to me would be I'd get more bits of litter etc which I hadn't noticed, on the edges of the photo and therefore spend more time cloning it out that taking snaps

It seems to me sometimes an electronics company has a death wish. So far I've had no trouble with my camera, a K7, it's only a few months old, but if I started getting the same "unfixable because we can't replicate it" recurring problem I'd be thinking twice before "upgrading" from the same manufacturer. It's an unfortunate fact that all electronics seem to be manufactured by "Ying Tang Diddly Aye Poo Co. Ltd" who obviously put in the cheapest tender.

I bought a couple of cheap CPL filters to play with until I can justify getting expensive ones, (The Financial Controller says never!) They seem very very stiff to turn so have not had them on a lens yet as I think they will either unscrew from the lens or "weld" themselves while being adjusted.
Any suggestions as to lubrication, eg a quick spray of WD40 or just sit and twiddle them until they wear a bit?
