Stiff CPL filter

I bought a couple of cheap CPL filters to play with until I can justify getting expensive ones, (The Financial Controller says never!) They seem very very stiff to turn so have not had them on a lens yet as I think they will either unscrew from the lens or "weld" themselves while being adjusted.
Any suggestions as to lubrication, eg a quick spray of WD40 or just sit and twiddle them until they wear a bit?

I have had similar problems with cheep filters. They just do not take as much care in manufacturing as the better firms like Hoya and B&W. I would not recommend WD40 as it seems to have a negative lubricating effect and you don't want it anywhere near the front element of a lens.In the long run, its best left in the garage for the car. Maybe just twiddling them for a bit may be the best option.

Try a soft (6B) pencil lead scribbled across the threads. Graphite is used by locksmiths for lubrication as it does not attract dust and does not flow.

It the threads are too big (I assume it's the male thread) it could be due to thick anodising in which case it could be gently scraped back a bit with a suitable engineers tap.

Disregard the above, I didn't immediately realise that a CPL has a rotating part.

Thanks for looking anyway. I think I'll just have to keep turning it until I "break it in" or break it
