K5 Jamming and locking up ?

Has any had a problem with the K5 jamming or locking up?
As I was out taking some shots and for some unknown reason it stopped and I could not take a shot or use any of the functions or even turn it of! The only way I could get it to work again was by taking out the battery and then put it back in. and then it seems to be ok again now ???.

Software glitch, happened once to me.

There is a thread somewhere on here about it already.
Seems there is no reason as to why it happens, I have had it a couple of times.

Even worse if you have a grip fitted as you have to unscrew that first to get to the battery in the camera body.

I called srs who i got it from and they told me it could be the grip that could do this ?? So im going to give it a good go over the weekend with out the grip.

My K5 has just been returned after serveral jammings,only happens on continiuos shoot mode the last time it happened no matter what I tried and there are several things to try I could not get the camera working so got in touch with SRS sadly I recieved a note back with my camera stating that the fault could not be recreated which isnt good news for me as I know that it is only a matter of time before this happens again and I would rather that the fault be found but it had freed itself but I did start the thread Shaun
The camera had been sent off to Pentax for repair by SRS and was away for three weeks

David did you get it fixed when you sent it back to SRS ?? What was the out come ??????????????

No Shaun they sent it off to Pentax but in the interim somehow the camera had unjammed so no fix so I am really not confident this wont happen again as it proved to be quite a habit I think it jammed about 6 times so far and taking the battery out sorted it each time but the last time I had to call SRS who dealt with the matter really quickly but the camera had freed itself either on its way to Pentax or whenever and this is what,for me is worrying as I am just waiting for it to jam again and I am pretty sure it will

It’s a bit of a worry and the K5 is fabulous bit of kit that’s why I got it. Hopefully this problem will get fixed by Pentax as for looking at this forum and other Pentax forums,it is becoming a common problem with the K5, but Pentax did fix the stain problem! lets hope that they do the same with this.

Have any of you had a problem with the electronic horizon not being in line with the viewfinder? Mine hasa two degree misalignment. I sent it back under warrantee with a full explanation of the probelm, but it has come back exactly the same.

Pentax are now going to send a courier to pick it up so they have another go at fixing it.

On Pentaxforum.com, several people are reporting the same fault. It seems that quality control is a bit lacking somewhere.

Re K-5 jamming.
This happened to me with my K-7, but seemed to relate to setting the autofocus to continuous (AF.C) and shooting too fast. I think the functions simply could not keep up. I had to remove the battery as well to fix it. But I virtually never use this function any more and it hasn't happened since.

Electronic Horizon,
I'm not sure about this, but I think it's a problem that occurs when you have Auto Horizon set, but actually want to align the frame with something that is "not quite" horizontal. So if the thing you want to have parallel with your frame edge is say 2 degrees off horizontal, the camera senses that it is with the range that it can adjust and skews the image to horizontal. When you look at the result it always looks wrong. I turned off the Auto Horizon, took the same shot and the problem went away. I leave it off all the time now unless I'm actually taking a photo that has a true horizon in it like the ocean.
