I like it! It works as it is, have you tried lowering the opacity of the gray halo? There's more of the halo on the top than on the bottom, but otherwise a nice BW photo.

In your attempt to come up with something diferent, you have you have created an unusual photograph. The vignetting has created a shape that is almost like a head-dress. Your process has not really created a traditional infrared effect.
However, if you want to explore a more traditional infrared type effect, you would do well to take a photo of an old building, with plenty of trees and foliage around it. Here a simulated infrared process should turn the foliage white, like a frost.

Thanks for your kind comments. The idea came from something I read in an old post by JR iirc, turn on mono jack up red and green and drop blue to zero, add a bit of contrast and whey hey an IR pic. It cures CA if nothing else In your attempt to come up with something diferent, you have you have created an unusual photograph. The vignetting has created a shape that is almost like a head-dress. I've already experimented with an old castle in a previous post, lots of things wrong as regards the framing etc but the effect looked "spooky". I'm hoping to get an IR filter and try out on an old *ist DL2 which I believe can be used for IR with a filter. Not keen on having it modified at mega bucks though

I have the original photo and will certainly try out lowering the opacity and balancing the top and bottom of the gray halo. I think every experiment is progress in the steep learning curve which is photography. Thanks for your encouraging comments.I like it! I think you could crop quite a bit from the top - she's got a lot of 'headroom'!There's more of the halo on the top than on the bottom, but otherwise a nice BW photo.
To me this doesn't exactly scream IR, it looks like an attempt to create an old vintage snapshot or postcard, with its grey vignette. It works well in that regard, if that's what you were after! Good expression too.
I think the shot would have been better framed a bit lower, including her hands and less of the conifer above her head. (The conifer is quite a strange background - using DOF to minimise background distractions would have worked better IMO). Her hair also looks a little burned out; could be the processing though.

The DL2 will certainly work well with an R72 filter, it will give hand-held exposures in bright sun - just. You'll need to take a manual white balance off sunlit grass, and preferably shoot RAW. The AF will still work reasonably well because the AF system is also seeing IR. My article over on the right will shed more light on it

Done: Got a camera. Got a lens. got a tripod. Three sets of batteries charged up.
To Do: Get a filter. Learn to spot a picture and composition. Think before I click. Everything else.
