I wish that cameras could ship with a charged battery, but that would require a cell that holds charge for a long time without much loss. I guess I'm just impatient and want to get out and use my K10D which arrived this morning. Was reading the manual yesterday, a rare event.

One thing I'm disappointed about is the lack of cases with the 'kit' lenses. Surely it wouldn't cost much to add a case to each box?

I want to play!

Not a nice day though, dull and showery. I wouldn't mind if it was dull and not raining.

That is what I thought as the mount is the same shape and old lenses work on new bodies. Now all I need is a few FA primes... Well, I can dream for now... LBA is going to be quite severe.

Just thought about this... Is is possible to mount KAF and KAF2 lenses on a KA mount and use them as a manual lens? Would be quite good if I could put newer lenses on my old cameras as I wouldn't need to have an AF set and a manual set.

There could be a number of reasons:

Focus assist lamp mode on the flash attempting to light the subject for focusing.

You are below the minimum focus distance and the camera's focus system is attempting to increase contrast by lighting the subject.

You are blocking too much light from reaching the lens and the focus assist mode of the flash is active.

All really related to the same thing.

No harm, you'll just get a shorter battery life. 1800mAh is still reasonable, much better then 1300, but you can get 2800mAh batteries nowadays.

I think that there are some rechargeable CRV3s that work with the K100D but most are not recommended because they are of too high a voltage. That is an other issue all together though, but disposable CRV3s in your bag would be a good idea in case you run out of power somewhere.

I'd definitely say go with the K100D, if you don't like the shake reduction you can turn it off. If you got the K110D then you'd never have the option of shake reduction.

The K100D with 18-55 and the 50-200 would be my suggestion if you can afford a second lens. I hear the 50-200 is well worth the £150 price and is much better than the price would suggest. I should know tomorrow as that is when my new kit arrives

Pentax K100D + 18-55
Price: £298.00

Pentax K100D + 18-55 + 50-200
Price: £438.00

Remember to get a good set of rechargeable AA NiMH batteries, 2000mAh or better and a 1GB or 2GB SD card at least. Two cards are always better as one might fail and then you'd be completely stuck.

The K100D and K110D are identical except in one feature.

The K100D has shake reduction and the K110D does not.

This makes the K100D the better model overall and is now cheaper than the K110D at £299 with 18-55mm lens.

It used to be that the K110D was the cheaper entry model but I think production of both is ramping down.

Very mixed weekend of good and bad events mostly marked by my partner's and my chinchilla, Eco, having to not be woken from an operation due to an intestinal abscess. He was only two years old and had a really nice cheeky character. It was very sad to see him in pain and not wanting to do anything.

A few good things but doesn't really balance out the loss of a member of our family, a pet we were very attached to. Found an auto-winder for my ME Super and Super A. No fungus in K and A lenses that have been stored for years. Was prevented from ordering a K10D by my partner which I guessed meant my family had ordered me one as a gift. I have to wait a few days to get it but I'll be having a lot of fun when it arrives. Shame I won't be able to photograph our little Eco

I never thought I'd get be so attached to a pet, he'll be sorely missed.

We've gone away for a few days to get away for a while and I'll hopefully find some distraction and comfort of shooting with my new camera. I'll post the first shot which I'll dedicate to Eco's memory (I'm going to hunt for something peaceful).

PS. Eco is not named after Echo but Escherichia coli restriction endonuclease I

I guess this is what happens when you study Biochemistry...
