What lenses?

I checked my old A 50mm F1.7 and A 24-50mm F4 for fungi and defects yesterday and saw just a little dust. This made me rather happy as they've not been used in some years.

I need to find myself a 49mm reverse coupler and a 52-49mm step down ring though. Any suggestions as to where to get these?

I'd agree with that, two 2GB Extreme III cards are £38 where as a 4GB card is at least £45.

SD was artificially limited to 4GB so they could launch a whole new family of SDHC (High Capacity). There are non SDHC 8GB cards by some smaller manufacturers, but none are particularly fast. SDHC is currently a slow format but with an Extreme II and III card in 4GB flavours due of release soon that will change.

Aperture is for Mac only, but Lightroom is an excellent option. I use it for all my digital photos and it is easy to process a whole shoot quickly. I've not used the web publishing module yet but I'm sure it will be handy. Just download the 30-day trial and have a go.

Here is my user's review of Lightroom on an other forum:

I seem to have missed something in the last few days of inactivity... Whatever it is just let it go, I've had stuff censored and deleted on other forums. I've seen a few people get in trouble because of potentially libellous posts being made on a forum managed by a company. It may have been nothing but in these days of legal action for any minor thing you have to be careful.

but like the camera on my mobile phone this will only be because I can't get the same device cheaper without it.
I think I only use the camera on my phone to access the LED 'flash' to use as a torch. It works quite well for that although because the camera and screen are active battery runs down relatively quickly.

It is very different media and I don't think they compete with each other.

Video can't be distributed effectively, can't be viewed at all times, can't be put anywhere without having to worry about equipment... I could go on for longer.

Most of the stuff on youtube is cr@p, most of the images and videos on the internet are rubish.

You may open more opportunity for video professionals to extract a few frames which are good and print them. But if everyone shot photos at 25fps there'd be a very high chance of everyone getting something good once in a while. Where as being able to get a good shot in a given situation, not randomly is the place of the photographer. The cinematographer can do the same but with moving images, they do sometimes mix but can be quite different.

In this data/storage hungry world it is very easy to loose things. Print a picture it may last hundreds of years and be found at any time. Shoot a good movie sequence you still need a time and place to shot it. Shoot a youtube video it will be forgotten within a year.

I think it is a none issue.

I like the focal length range on the 10-17, but would prefer a rectilinear lens with these focal range.

I use a 6-bit dithering display and the colour reproduction isn't that bad once calibrated. Can't get 8-bit 1920x1200 17" displays at the moment unfortunately. I have a CRT as well, but that isn't calibrated and sucks more power than my notebook at full pelt.

I think the processing on the K10 is only 12-bit so you'd be hard pushed to get any 16-bit files out of it...
so what's the point of the much touted 22bit A/D then?

or are they just "marketing bits" like we so often see in audio....
This allows more accurate conversion of the data, it is processed as 22-bit from the analogue signal and then compressed down to 12-bit to save a lot of space. The 22-bit to 12-bit conversion still gives a big tonal improvement from a straight 12-bit ADC.
