I think I`d change position on your avatar if I were you - you look a little "vulnerable" in that position !!!!!!

Sunny and bright if a little chilly here - been out with the *istD and M42 1.4 50mm lens for a burble in the garden between leaf collecting and tidying.
Time for a cuppa methinks....................

Go online with Confused.com and shop around - loyalty counts for bu**er all these days and the companies are so stupid they can`t see it !

My renewal with Ch*rchill was up by over £80 to £280 so I went around and found it for under £180 and FREE breakdown cover. Also try 50 PLUS they are my people now and still competitive at under £200 fully comp incl breakdown and no claims cover - 5000 miles pa,named driver,Astra 1.6 2007 reg.

I don't think there are any service manuals, and I really wouldn't be inclined to fiddle with any new lenses either. IIRC John Riley mentioned that due to the quantities of plastic in new lenses they're assembled to precise torque settings allowing for the inherent flex in the materials, as opposed to the old metal ones where you could just tighten everything up a little more than finger tight and it'd be fine.

As I said before, my only successful fix on a modern (ish) lens was an 80-200mm zoom. I was lucky in that the mould was only on the very front element which could be unscrewed without much hassle and was fairly easy to adjust once refitted.

I'd previously bought a "spares or repair" 28-80mm with power zoom - let's just say I now have a selection of optical glass lenses and lumps of plastic as there were too many broken bits for me to figure out how to rebuild it! On the plus side its power zoom switch has been passed to an otherwise perfect example of the same lens.
I`ve just been looking through my Oldtimer books from way back , and I`ve found one called Repair Manual with all the Asahi from Asahiflex 1 to Spotmatic , 6x7 , Motor Drive ,Nocta , Lenses , Accessories etc. It has cutaways and everything - no date or copyright.

Oh Dear !

I only got 4 left on top supporting a skeletal platinum plate and one of those is iffy !!

Quick needle prick and you won`t feel a thing - just don`t try to impress the dental nurse by drinking the mouthwash afterwards - it just dribbles everywhere - lol.

Dad was a dentist so I`m reasonably at home in the chair and these days the technology is amazing.....................
