Does Rain Stop Play?

I've noticed a couple of comments recently where members have said they didn't go out and shoot images because it was raining...we now have WR cameras and lenses, or an umbrella can always be used to protect equipment, so why not? The light is wonderful in the rain and the colours glisten with a unique vibrancy.

So do we venture forth into the rain or not?
Best regards, John

I never had any qualms about shooting in the rain prior to WR, obviously being sensible enough to keep the toys in their case until the last moment.

Last winter I was caught in an unexpected sleet and snowstorm with the K20D and wished I'd had another camera to photograph it covered in snow and icicles forming on it!

I suspect people are more worried about getting themselves wet rather than their kit but Pentax have that covered too

My latest piece of personal WR kit, bought from a Pro Dealer so no doubt with a two year warranty, arrived a couple of days ago...

The hat I'm wearing in my avatar is at the cleaners right now.

I go out in the rain and take photos.
I enjoy the woods in the rain - the lovely soft light is wonderful normally but lately the general dull greyness means the light has been so poor it has not inspired photography.

Quite right - I used to take shots in North Sea Near Gales and that was back in the daus of SFXn ! Over time I think it has perished the rubber grip though:

And woods are very dark places at the best of time...

there's no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong gear. I don't care. I won't really go out if it's below -30, though, as then it's plain painful.

I shoot quite a bit in London and find that when it's tipping it down can have a couple of key benefits:

- Tourists and people in general stay indoors
- At night you get amazing reflections from the pavement and in puddles...

Larger version of above:Southbank rain
Another from the same evening:Big Ben & brollies
Both shots from:London album

EDIT: if rain worries you try a rain cover for your camera, I've got one of those Kata jobbies which is excellent. Still can't stop rain getting on the front element though if shooting wide angles. Tele's with their big hoods are the only way of stopping that.

If it's drizzling I tend to go out with film rather than digital. You get a nicely gritty look with black & white on grey days, plus something like an MX is less likely to be bothered by a bit of water than my K-m.

It's more a case of not bothering if it is dull and grey as I can't make the flat light work for me..maybe I should try harder.
Getting there! Thanks to you guys

HAH

It's all right for some

Yes for me rain does stop play - the K-x is not weatherproof ,[ the K7 is too big and too heavy for me ] my hands really hurt if they get too cold and the combination of rain and cold means I end up with no feeling in my right hand - so the K-x is then in great danger.

Time to look for my silk lined gloves

Rain does not bother me so much. As an outdoor shooter, I find the lack any light after work a hinderence.
