Well, I've giving all the contacts a gentle wipe and tried the set-up again; Pentax battery in third party grip, nothing in camera, and with all three options tried in the menu. It now works fine! Could be the cleaning, could be an issue with a brand new K-5 and grip working together for the first time. Anyway, I'm very happy. SmutjeUK - I'm sure you've got the better product (and I've had a BG2 from Pentax before), but £205 less £33 = another lens!

Thanks for help and apologies to SmutjeUK for hijacking part of your thread

Mike

I've only got the one battery at the moment (the Pentax one) and it was while using thes in the grip with the camera slot empty that it happened. I've ordered some more batteries so maybe that will make a difference if the cleaning doesn't?

The manual does it's usual job (Pentax no different to others) of telling you what, not why. So, I know that I can have SR on or off in movie mode, but does anyone know what the criteria are for selecting? There's no exposure time as such, so what factors drive the choice? Anyone know the answer or done any testing? Any help will be greatly received!

Good point - it is brand new and looks in good condition, but I'll give the pins a (gentle) shine. Thanks.

I've just got one of these grips for £33 and I agree it's pretty good for the price. One problem I've had though is that the camera quickly shows the battery losing charge when it is in the grip (no battery in camera). If I put the battery back in the camera it is fine, ie shows the correct charge. Is this just a quirk? Considering the grip is a 6th of the price of a Pentax one, I'm happy to live with it. Anyone else seen this behaviour?

Raw always. I've tried comparing the end results and it is invariably better. Also, I'm the sort of person who will always fiddle with pics so using Lightroom is just natural now.

My company has just moved its HO to Maple Cross. I looked it up on Google Maps. About 15 minutes from SRS I think. I am doomed. Bang goes the kids Christmas presents

I second George's comment (if indeed it is directed at Aminstar.) I know Amin actually got a lot of personal grief from the third party he was using who tried to rip Amin off. Throughout Amin tried to get the best deal he could for the forum. Unfortunately George, I think any further lenses would would necessitate the purchase of a Canon body!
