K20 and K5 questions

After reading all about the K5 I am looking at selling my K20 and taking the plunge. But I've got a couple of questions:

1 - how do I find out how many shutter activiations my K20 has done? It seems I need to know this to sell it.

2 - will my battery grip work on the K5? I use this a lot and would be lost without it.

Best wishes,
Andy

1) Download and use PhotoMe. It's free and just drop a file onto it.
2) no. You need a BG4.

Sell the grip with the K20D, you may get a better price, then but the new grip with the K-5.

Many thanks for that folks. I've had to have a sit down after looking at the price of the BG4 - good grief!

There are various compatible models, starting from around £40. None of them have weather sealing, but other than that some of them are supposed to be difficult to tell apart from the real thing.

I made a killing at Jessops when they stopped selling Pentax. Got the K20D grip for £35. I was sure then that was a realistic price. The 'real' price is, like so many things, a bit of a take on IMHO.

This is where the real profit lies.

I am getting on of these for xmas a quick play before it was put away. suggests it's not bad for the price. Fatspider has been using one as well so he may have more to say on how good it is.link

I have one of the cheap Chinese knock off grips.
Fairly well made but not a patch on the real thing. buttons/wheels are quite flimsy but I bought mine for the extra battery power and to bulk up the camera a bit and it works pefectly for my needs.

Will buy a original grip when they (hopefully) come down in price a bit.

I got one of these grips for my K7, I would imagine it would fit the K5 as they share a body.

It is one of the better one's, metal pins, ( some have plastic ), and reinforced tripod mount, fits well, the outward appearance matched the K7 and I got 2 batteries with it.

Been using it for a few months now, no problems. It comes with battery holders for the original battery or a set of AA's

The batteries they supplied seem to last as long as the original, so worth buying for the batteries alone.

I have the model that Barrie has the link to. As a method of having the extra battery power to hand, and for aiding to stabalise the camera a bit more with the SIgma 150-500 on then it is ideal and serves its purpose well. Ok so what if it doesnt have all the seals etc, its £40 odd quid....... As well as having 2 batteries the one I got also had an extra slide for conventional batteries. It was alsoposted 'as a sample' so no import duty!

Ditto on the link from Barrie, so far mine has been OK

I must point out I am not sure about the weather sealing on this grip, no signs of seals though it looks like they've tried to do it via the way the thing is moulded. And apart from the on off switch seeming a little wobbly comparted to those on the K5 body all the button and dial work well.

Wow, as I need it only to make the camera more 'handy' in my hands and for the extra battery power it looks like that you guys just saved me ~£150 as I contemplate this one as long as it can be shipped fast and from the UK.
It says in the description that it is water resistant.
Kind regards

It's nice to be nice!

Yeah right, the fact that the plastic can resist water doesn't mean it wont get into the joints
It does make the camera more comfortable to hold though and there is the added bonus of the two extra batteries and the option to use AAs, though with three batteries in total its unlikely you will ever need it.

I've just got one of these grips for £33 and I agree it's pretty good for the price. One problem I've had though is that the camera quickly shows the battery losing charge when it is in the grip (no battery in camera). If I put the battery back in the camera it is fine, ie shows the correct charge. Is this just a quirk? Considering the grip is a 6th of the price of a Pentax one, I'm happy to live with it. Anyone else seen this behaviour?

Same battery shows good charge when placed immediately back into camera - without charging in between? Then must be dirty or poor contact between grip and camera?
