Agreed. Also, just looking at the f/1.4 fully open is a thing of joy in itself

I had the 16-45, sold it and then got another. I take quite a few indoor shots and 16mm makes all the difference (that's why you got 24mm and 28mm lenses in old money.) Also, the quality is better across the frame and I like the contrasty results it gives. Stick with it!

I have both lenses Dangermouse (I assume NOT the esteemed producer and half of Gnarls Barkley, though it would be nice if you were - note Mowog, we might be old, but we're still contemporary!) mentions. And both are excellent. I think you can get the Samyang for less than £200 now and it's characteristics means that you can take wide angle vistas that don't scream fisheye.

Cheers

I have a 9 year old son who I have bought an *ist DS, which he loves. And he often asks me about this "forum" that I am on. I would love that he could be on this, because you guys are great and I know would encourage him enormously, but I can't risk the (rare) slide into vitriol or obscenity.

God I feel old...

(Um...things moved on whilst I was typing. Clearly time for bed.)

I've done a quick test with my K-5. Daughter against a bright window. Basically, the HDR managed to retain detail in the window that I couldn't achieve with a "normal" exposure that didn't plunge my daughter into darkness. Only problem is that you have to settle for jpeg. So I will pursue...

Excellent set of shots. Beats my attempts with my lovely new K5. What exposure settings did you use?

Cheers

Maybe I'm missing something. Surely if ISO is set to AUTO then the shutter speed and F-stop can remain the same and the camera adjusts the ISO. How is this different from TAv (which I'm sure you'll realise I have never used!)
If you use Tv or Av, then the camera will adjust the other setting as well as ISO, depending on the algorithm. With TAv YOU adjust both shutter speed and aperture and the camera picks the suitable ISO within the auto range (blinking if you've reached the limit and are going to over/under expose.) Seriously good feature - just used it at my son's school play to set 1/125 @ f/6.3 whilst the changing lighting conditions were handled by the (awesome) ISO changes.

So that's TAv and ISO range for me!

Finally got round to doing mine....and it's fine! Clean as a clean thing that has just been cleaned (and then cleaned again to make sure.)

That'll be 3.5% then

Ahhh...back home now and the beer's wearing off. I do, however, have a *istDS which I might try. Having said that, a quick look at the back of AP seems to suggest these buggers aren't excatly cheap!
