Simple answer is you can't really. This mode is intended for use with studio (or other powerful) flashes, where the flashguns are providing pretty much all the light in the picture.
In X-sync mode, the exposure duration is locked at 1/180th of a second, which is the quickest that the camera can shoot without having to resort to High Speed Sync flash (in which the flash pulses several flashes, rather than just one). The duration of the actual flash's light burst will be less than this.
Usually when you're changing exposure compensation, the camera modifies ISO, aperture and shutter speed to obtain the desired exposure. In X-Sync mode, the ISO & shutter speed are locked (although you can change the ISO manually) and the aperture you are meant to control yourself to create the desired depth of field. It's the flash/light burst that's going to actually expose your photo, correctly or otherwise.
In short, if you're wanting to use fill flash, you're probably better using a different mode, such as M or P.

The fact is, the K-R is the entry level DSLR to get- build quality as good as (if not better than) D3100 & EOS 1100D, and features way ahead (Built in SR, focus motor, better high ISO etc). The K-01 appeals to a very different market.
Of course, if they release another entry level DSLR, or keep the K5 alive and drop the price a bit, then that isn't a problem.

Certainly the availability of the new 40mm lens as kit will push down prices of the 40mm ltd second hand.
I do rather like the look of the K-1, but I can't see it actually bringing many new people to the brand - and those that do come over are unlikely to be the sort of people who buy a lot of lenses, IMHO.
Combined with that, the recent sale runs at Amazon and Jessops etc have seen a lot of lens going for much less than they were previously, so putting more of them into the second hand market (as people try to sell on for profit) and of course reducing demand as people looking for them have been able to buy.

Just to add, I'm guessing you made a typo and mean Camden High Street?

I did have a quick play with one in SRS- there's no denying it's a fun little camera, and the price is getting pretty reasonable now.
