I rang the Solihull branch, and they have put one aside for me.
I presume all the branches have some and they are clearing them out.

For those lucky people with one of these beasts how fast is the focusing given that it does not have SDM/HSM?

Well my 2 lenses at the old prices arrived yesterday from SRS.

I had read the runes from this forum and saw that if I wanted anything in the next 6 months or so I should get it now.

Just in the nick of time.

Thanks for all your input, just the sort of comments I was looking for,

I think I will look at adjusting the crop, contrast and sharpening before handing it in - as I said before I'd rather somebody else find problems rather than the judge!!

Prieni

Thanks for your comments.

Its an open regular 'merit' competition, so no brief, everybody enters up to 3 images, and the judge just chooses which images he thinks are 'best'.

I am aware that the specular highlights and deep shadows on the tyres are clipped - the lighting was quite strong from the rear - I didn't boost the contrast, but as they are small areas of clipping and not in the main subject area hopefully they are not that distracting.

I tried a longer shutter speed, but as the bikes were doing almost 200mph (320 kph) down the straight this was the slowest shutter speed I could use and still get a sharp picture - I have 100's of blurred ones

One of my entries to a camera club competition to be handed in next week.

Comments appreciated - I'd rather you tell me any problems with it before the judge does

Samsung GX10, Sigma 100-300 f4.

I joined a camera club about a year ago, and now about 50 of my prints a year get printed up to A3 size for competitions.

I think entering the competitions and seeing lots of other peoples work opened my eyes to different styles of photography, and improved my photography no end (Thats my view - you may think otherwise)

The structures of camera clubs in the UK is quite bureaucratic and hierarchical, a list of the various regions and their websites from where you can find lists of individual clubs is here http://www.pagb-photography-uk.co.uk/ - warning the websites are often quite poor, don't let that put you off.
Also try out quite a few clubs as a guest as they all have their own 'character'

Tony

I have a GX20 Jacobs special as well, which I am very pleased with.

Unfortunately Samsung have yet to discover that the Mac has been invented, as all the software appears to be PC only, so I shall have to take your word for it.

However I have calibrated all of my lenses with the Fine AF Adjustment available on the GX20/K20D and they are now all that little bit sharper at no extra cost.

My GX20 arrived yesterday.

Its in perfect condition, with 370 shutter clicks and all the accessories, so I assume was probably used as a demonstration model in a shop. (Which is what I guessed when I bought it).

At £299, the same price as a new K-m, I'm perfectly satisfied.
When something is significantly cheaper than usual there's usually a reason.

I've often shopped in Jessops and seen a demonstration model demonstrated to a customer and then sold to them as 'its the only one we've got', and they never got a discount.

Although saying all that if its in poor condition with marks I would return it.

After following this thread I thought I would give it a go.

Rang up Jacobs, told them that friend had told me about £299 special offer, was told that one would be in later that day (they seem to get them in dribs and drabs).

GX20 Arrived this morning. All looks OK, 370 activations on shutter and firmware 1.00, so probably an ex-demo model although you wouldn't guess it was from the condition of the body and the lens mount.

This should keep me going until the K7 comes down in price or K30 released.

I already have a GX10 so everything is familiar.

Looking forward to making the individual lens adjustments to get that little bit more sharpness out of my lenses.
