GX20 vs K20D useability?

Having now decided that the K20D/GX20 will be my upgrade route from my current GX10 (after much deliberation over the K7) I'm considering which model to buy as pricing seems much closer than on the previous GX10/K10D.

I do quite like the menu system/general useability of my GX10 and wondered if anyone had compared this aspect of the GX20 vs Pentax K20D or indeed owns both & would maybe state a preference

thanks

Simon

If you can get a GX-20 from Jacobs for £299 your question answers itself. I have a GX-20 and fundamentally if you get on with the GX-10 you'll get on with the 20.
Technically, both use the same Samsung sensor et al and they are the same camera.

Simon

I currently have a K10D and a GX20 and IMHO Samsung have the edge on usability/interface. Although the differences are largely subtle, the GX20 is more in line with other technology devices I've used. In an (admittedly not double-blind) test with my 5 and 7 year olds, the Samsung won easily. (They give my wife advice on using the computer, BTW!)

Unless you are going to get a bargain as lemmy suggests i would go with the k20.If you wanted to try something new i.e. the k20 your knowledge of both the formats would grow.

Hi Simon, If you compare the two on the DXOMark site link they give the GX-20 a slightly higher mark which could help with landscapes.

One big omission with the GX-20 is no tethered shooting, although it may be possible under Linux with 3rd party software.

The menus are hard to read if you normally use reading glasses, but don't use them with a camera.

Jacobs are out now of the GX20. I know cause i had one delivered yesterday minus a battery. Called them to have a go and was told they will send me a new battery in the post as they have no gx20's left to swap it with.

Hi Matt, Did you ask them if they had any Kit lenses going cheap?

No. I wont deal with Jacobs again. The second one i has marks all over it. ripped plastic wrapping, no battery and 1200 shutter clicks. Cheap they are yes but its illegal to sell used goods as new.

That doesn't sound good, a few people seem to have received genuine new models reading the forum, maybe demand was so much that they were tempted to try & clear a few returns too ??

As you mentioned before there's definitely none left, I phoned several stores to check yesterday with no luck

All the GX-20's were sent from the branches to Oxford St. now it's come to the last few, some will have been used as demos in the shops, although due to the low popularity, they shouldn't have had much use. The one Matt's talking about sounds like it's been out of the shop, either a salesman took it home to try out or it's been swapped for a customer. This could have just been that the customer didn't like the camera and they took it back. If there are no service stickers on the box, that's probably what happened.

There should be a 2 year guarantee in the box.

Well phoned them yesterday and was fuming. they said it definitely is not second hand but would have been used in store to demo.I said thats illegal and he just muttered something and said well return it if your not happy. Lack of battery was a mystery they said and are sending one in a jiffy bag. Could be here today ,might not be, WONDERFUL SERVICE!

Bit worried as I'm waiting for mine (although I haven't been home this week so it may be waiting for me)! My advice would be to call customer services and ask for compensation. They won't want the camera back so might be generous?

Interestingly checked their website and they are showing Out of Stock with 10 days lead time. I wonder if they are now being dispatched centrally from somewhere else?

Bit naughty asking for compensation when they've already knocked £200 off. Anyone not happy can put it on ebay and make £100.

I called customer services head office who just tried to skirt around the fact. Asked for compensation and was told no as they are already selling at a loss.
