Lens Prices...

Hi all,

In response to the many emails asking me for this information, please see the following list to give you an idea of the new 'street' prices for lenses. This is a guide - they may vary by a few pounds either way..

I have had several emails bordering on abusive from disgruntled people. It is not my fault that prices have increased - we have not set the new prices. Please believe me when I say that I am constantly on the case to Pentax regarding this situation. Any frustrations need to be directed towards Pentax and not my staff...

The lenses not listed here have already increased in price.

Sorry for the mini rant above, but I am having a very frustrating day dealing with this situation!!

Sorry to hear that some people are being unreasonable

I would much rather they took it out on Gordon (no more boom and bust) Brown - the cause of most of our problems

There's no excuse for anyone being abusive about this - Chris is doing his best to earn a reasonable living by offering us a superb service.

Everyone should treat Chris and his staff (and everybody else) with proper respect and courtesy.

Sorry to hear how narrow minded people can be, I only have to think what extra you will have to find to cover new stock when anything extra I may have to find seems comparatively minor particularly when you have to buy I can choose. Also, you do not declare a day for the increase you sell old stock at the old price so you have no cushion.

Chin up, I always used to say the retail trade would be a doddle if it weren’t for the fact that everyone who wishes to buy from you thinks themselves your boss, which, of course, they are.

If it wasn't for people like Chris and a few other hard-working small business owners, we would all be forced to buy from Amazon. Try getting advice from them!

(And I promised I wasn't going to ask you again but) any news on the K7?

I would just like to say that throughout this Pentax price increase matter I feel that SRS have acted in an exemplary manner.

Chris gave us an early warning of the substantial rises to come in good time thus allowing us to bring forward intended purchases to beat the rises. He is now phasing in the increases on new stock whilst holding his old stock at the former prices. The temptation to increase the price of the old stock to the new levels must be overwhelming, and I do not think many retailers would act in this way.

So Chris I am most favorably impressed by all this which certainly reinforces my confidence in your business and my loyalty towards you. I just hope that with these new price levels that Pentax sales do not drop off too much for you.

Sad to hear that people are taking it out on the retailer, obviously Pentax very much dictate the retail costs of their products.

I must admit looking at these substantial rises I'll certainly not be making any purchases in the near future, I don't think Pentax are doing themselves or their retail outlets any favours. As good as the service at SRS is, they're going to have an increasingly difficult time selling Pentax gear

I'm just seriously puzzled over why the price hikes are so massive! I understand that currency has something to do with it, but I have wondered if Pentax/Hoya have used this as an opportunity to restructure pricing - perhaps to make the lenses seem more "serious" for the "all-the-gear-no-idea" market?

If it is 100% down to currency, I wish Pentax would just say so! If they don't say then I can only assume there's another agenda at play... (which would be a great shame).

I wouldn't mind so much if my take home pay had gone up by a similar ratio

No K7 for me then...

60-250mm f/4.0 ED (IF) SDM* - £1150 ? Unbelievable that a lens that has only just come out has been increased by a third.

I remember a certain Shampoo link that was probably about the biggest seller in the UK about 20 years ago doubling their price and putting it in a fancy bottle because they thought it was worth more... Result it disappeared almost overnight.

I agree with you comment Matt, the price rises are way beyond currency fluctuations and I believe that Pentax are repositioning and using the UK to test market reaction. It is a risky strategy at this time, if it works they will be laughing all the way to the bank. If it does not work they may find themselves very marginalised and they become very niche with Leica pricing to match.

When do you think that the other retailers will follow suit!

I would stil buy from SRS even after the price hikes as i can't fault the customer friendliness of Chris and his team.
