I just registered this software for 12 usd.

Drag and drop your pef onto filejuicer and lo and behold it EXTRACTS from within the pef file 3 jpgs of different levels.

This could save a lot of time when getting together jpg files for a website.

Yes I know about spaces from other programs that cannot handle but if one publishes to a folder first, don't you lose some of the iWeb specific advantages/features when you then publish to .mac?

I have tried to publish also publishing to a folder first.

I think my homepage looks better, is faster and is much easier to control. edit and keep backed up.

Using Taco as the editor all the pages are locally on my Powermac. Using Gallerie to create all the photo pages, stored in the same place. Using Transmit to shoot the whole lot up to .mac.

Yesterday I reinstalled the whole homepage I had before in less time than it took two further tries at publishing in iWeb.

I have been publishing for 3 months or so with iWeb with -_ in page names without problem.

I started by using TACO edit for the site and Galerie for the photo galleries, then when iWeb came out I was suckered into believing this was the best thing! Not so.

With V1.0 iWeb was fine, update to V1.1, forget it, doesn't publish. I have now copied back my original site and will go back to TACO, Galerie.

iWeb is VERY slow, even when it does publish. I don't like the templates either.

I am not very amused by the Jobs Hype over ease of use of his latest toy iWeb and the lots of other people who cannot publish .....

Am I mad to go back to creating in an editor and Gallerie to then upload to Homepage rather than iWeb?

Amazing what is available and for free these days. Unfortunately Irfanview is windows-only. Having changed to a Mac, I will not change back. Perhaps to a Linux box but not windows.

I use Extensis Portfolio.

Shoot RAW, copy images to an Image-only partition, make new folder something like:-

Multimediapicsplace-dateimg001 etc

Then once all are copied over I ADD to Portfolio, which then grabs all the EXIF etc plus the path and file name.

From then onward I can search using CONTAINS on the Path.

I also add a description for each photo, and of course that can be searched on as well.

Before I had a great folder system, but no way to quickly locate pictures and make up web pages and so on, now I have something that works well. I throughly recommend Portfolio.

I am more than happy with a Konica/Minolta backpack. It takes my ist and 3 lens no problem plus an Apacer CD-burner etc etc + an umbrella!

Have a look here at the dog called Windsor. There are two photos taken with my 40mm the one titled just "Windsor" in particular. That was one picture I was really very pleased with.

I have the 40mm Limited, it is a great lens, when one wants to be unobtrusive. It takes with a step-down adaptor the same filters as for my video camera using the hood that comes with it and screwing the filters into the front of the hood. It is an all metal lens and is very light, nicely finished. Great as a standard lens. Great for people. Great for grab shots, snapshots.

As a new Pentax user I speak.

When I walked into the camera shop and said I was looking for a new camera a DSLR, I was immediately pointed to the more expensive Nikons and Canon. To which I replied I want to see a Pentax *Ist. I had read a lot and seen pictures of the "ist D & DS, which I liked the look of, the controls all looked in logical places. The cameras looked right. I was told the only model was the DL.

Don't get me wrong, I like the DL very much, but it does make me wonder when I read these forums and see what people who own the D and DS models say about their models.

I agree that one major plus is that lenses of years ago can be used. I have bought 2 DA new ones and one 18-35 second-hand.

Another major plus is the logical layout of controls, I was horrified by the complex, fiddly small controls on some of the competing makes.

Another major asset that interested me from the outset was AA batteries.

Another plus the Pentax looks well balanced.

Another thought, if the backward-compatibility of lenses is so great, why then is the Pentax not marketed as having the widest selection of lenses on this earth?

Time to change the marketing people perhaps?

Well practice is the order of the day then. I like the lens though and it feels good in use on the DL.

On another subject, I bought myself a large bulb-blower today to blow some dirt of the focussing screen - I hope never to get stuff onto the sensor.

Given up now. The dirt is on the top side of the screen, where I cannot get to. The bulb blower is OK for the front elements and the camera body.
