I was walking through the woods just recently taking wildlife photos for my personal use when I came across two men carry binoculars. As I said ‘hello’ and passed them, one of them said to the other ‘why do people carry cameras when you have two eyes? Binoculars are much better’.

My thoughts came up with so many witty comments that it actually overloaded my brain, so I never replied. Damm it!!

There's a few heated words said about the freedom of photographers in this forum. Common sense is need

For example, it is not illegal to take a photograph of any property as long as you are not standing on private grounds. Military sensitive are an exception for the obvious reasons. However, if someone objects, it is better to move on and come back at a later date than to confront an objector

It is not illegal to take photographs of any persons as long as you are not standing on private grounds. However, a parent will object to a photograph being taken of their child. I certainly will and, although wrong, the law will support that parent. Would it be easier to ask for permission first explaining the purpose of the photograph? Also what is someone suppose to think if your taking photographs of children from outside the school grounds?

People will feel violated if they realised if they have been photographed without their permission. The best bet is to do it sneakily or pretend your part of the press.

Taking photographs on private grounds need permission to publicise but regardless if permission is gained or not, the copyright remains with the photographer. National trust, are you listening?

The most interesting camera I own is a 1924 medium format Kodak vest pocket model B.

My grandad give it to me and was very impressed when I loaded it up with film and took a few family snaps
