There's no point of taking 12bits to the print, it will not improve the print since the output does not even match 8 bits.

However, there are significant advantages of working in 12 bits, especially with curves (and other similar adjustments). Check your histogram after 'stretch' adjustment and you will gaps representing lost details. When you have finialise your photo and convert it to 8bits, any lost details is simpily cut out in the same way ragged edges on a paper can be cut to smooth lines.

Working in 8 bits, lost details can show on the final print, just 12bits reduces the lost to the bare minium.

I would be very careful with using older lenses, basically I blame one of them for breaking the autofocus function on my DL2. Of course it may not have been the lens but it is suspect. The metal construction may have done something to the contacts

I've used tethered shooting on my old xp computer for some time now. However, I've upgraded to vista but the remote shooting does not work now. The camera just shows 'pc' on the screen and vista shows a storage device.

Any solutions, the remote software is v3.51

I sorry to say that I would not recommend the lens unless you get it at a very good price.

The problem is the CA because it is terrible. I can honestly say that my super zoom Sigma lens is better for CA and that is saying something. Don't get me wrong, it lens is sharp and is virtually slient when focusing but the CA problem is a real let down.

I would suggest test driving the lens before purchase and make up your own mind

I've still got my Jessops 280AFP (film) which I've bought for £28 many noons ago. To be honest, I was very suprised with the good results. So providing Jessops continues down this line, this new flash shouldn't have any issues if it is used for non-pro work

I have a Sigma DG Super and it has been an excellent buy. Yes the display could be better but I get constant results. Just don't get very demanding because it will not cope without a cooling period

It's nice to know that the police are protecting the public from nasty criminals such as photographers. The Icelandic police have the right idea by pepper spraying crowds of photographs just because they have a camera in their hands, or the British police who snatched the camera from the photographer who was taking wedding photos of nice couple on their special day.

Come on all photographers, change your nasty ways by handing in your cameras to the local police station and giving up on your life of crime as well as your freedom to take photos.

Does anyone have a recommended F setting for portrait style to the 16-50 SDM lens. It think f8 is about right, is this right or wrong?

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy with the lens and the sharpness is across the zoom ranges, it is just the CA at wide what is letting this lens down. maybe I'm expecting too much especially when the cannon and nikon equivilant cost a lot more but they too are not without their problems.

Am I expecting too much to have near-enough-zero CA for £500? Should I have considered another SDM lens for cheaper?

BTW yes the build quality is very good
