I've no doubt you need to be careful Don, my initial intention at least is to use it more as a way of driving additional traffic to my main website by only placing a few "teaser" images on the main page and then adding links to my main site - should be interesting to see if my traffic increases if nothing else

What's Facebook?

I have just learned to text.
take 300 narcissists, 580 businesses, 10,000 advertisers, a few phishing scam artists, who all pretend to be your friend, and pretend to like you, all hoping to get something for nothing from you... then add your relatives and ex's who want to keep tabs on you....plus your real friends are already there, now give them all a place where they can spam you with multimedia text messages 24/7... THAT is Facebook my friend.

Now since you want somebody, anybody preferably EVERYBODY to buy your photo services, ....GET OUT THERE AND MAKE SOME PHONEY FRIENDS AND PRETEND TO LIKE THEM!!!!!

Just sayin'. Hope that helps.
Sounds like you're a big fan Don

The thing about business pages though is that the "making friends" part isn't used so does that actually make it harder to promote your page - it seems it revolves around getting people to "Like" you page which then links into their own friends pages etc.

I'm new to this so feel free to correct me if I'm wrong!!

I'm currently looking at new ways to further promote my photography and as well as considering selling at local craft fairs Facebook seems to be THE online tool that many people are using these days to promote themselves.

Just wondered how many people on here use it, for business purposes, and how useful you think it is?

I've just created a new Facebook page to support my website, very early days yet and I realise it takes time, but I'm intrigued to see if it generates more traffic.

I welcome any comments/feedback on the page I've created too!!

I had a couple of B&W shots printed on canvas and they looked pretty good.

For customers orders I now only use http://www.oxfordimagecompany.com/

Richard who runs the company is very helpful and the quality of the canvas prints are top notch

My recent competiton success has made me think that now would be a good time to start taking my photography a little more seriously and double my efforts. I'm considering trying a few local craft fairs as a starting point to try and progress the business side of things and perhaps raise my profile. Has/does anyone attend craft fairs and have any thoughts they'd be willing to pass on?

Thanks

Thanks everyone,

EM - I think the problem these days is that it's assumed every photo is heavily manipulated and certainly it seems an increasing trend. My Snowdon shot, although some probably wouldn't believe it, has had minimal processing - basically a slight contrast boost and a very slight tweak in luminance. The shot was taken just after sunrise during October 2007 when the heather dies away on the Snowdonia hillsides producing some wonderful colours, this combined with a particuarly colourful sunrise produced the photo, not me!!

The judging took place at the event at St James's Palace last Wednesday so the result is known - there's a reason the deer photo appeared on the front page of The Telegraph

Thanks for the replies I guess I'm not 100% sure what I need but looking in to ND filters I think I will get one as when I'm taking landscapes most of the time the sky whites out, afaik this will stop that?
The idea of an NDGRAD filter is to balance out the lighting in a shot, just as you mention...here's a link that explains it better than I can
